When “Harlem” star Grace Byers appeared on the “Tamron Hall Show,” she shared some surprising news - she found out she was pregnant with her first child after filming season 2 of the show. Grace, who had no idea she was pregnant while shooting, spoke about her experiences balancing her pregnancy and acting, as well as her babymoon with her husband, Trai Byers. More inside…
Actress Grace Byers, known for her role in the hit Prime Video series "Harlem," recently appeared on "The Tamron Hall Show" to talk about her experience filming the show while being pregnant with her first child. As it turns out, Grace didn't even know she was pregnant for half of the filming of season two!
The mom-to-be shared how she found out about her pregnancy and how she initially mistook the early pregnancy symptoms for her menstrual cycle.
In the interview, Grace explained, "The same things in the beginning of pregnancy kind of mirror that with your cycle so I thought it was my cycle, you know what I mean? And so it’s like, so then, when we wrapped, I was like ‘Oh no, that’s not my cycle. It’s a baby!’”
Despite the surprise, Byers and her husband Trai Byers, who she met on the "Empire" set, were able to take a babymoon to Big Sur, which is a rugged and mountainous section of the Central Coast of California, and enjoy some time off before the arrival of their little one.
“What was funny is that I kept saying because he [Trai Byers] was doing his Broadway debut in ‘The Piano Lesson’ revival, it was wonderful, and I was shooting ‘Harlem’ and so we were talking about it and I kept saying ‘Oh it would be so great if we went on a babymoon but I don’t know if we’ll have the time because of our schedules.’ Well Christmas, he surprised me with this full itinerary and he was like ‘we’re going to Big Sur!’ So yeah, we went to Big Sur and so we could drive, instead of flying and then we could take breaks and all of that and it was wonderful, it was beautiful!”

The “Empire” alum also cleared up a quote from her husband about giving him "notes" in their marriage. She clarified that the "notes" they give each other are not criticisms but constructive feedback like artists discussing their work. She emphasized that they are both artists, and their way of communicating with each other is through giving feedback on their respective crafts.
”The whole 'notes' thing...we’re two artists!," she explained. "So imagine if we were painters and you know, he had this beautiful painting where he had all these oranges he was using. The notes that we give each other are literally like ‘oh you used that medium orange. I wonder if you used that burnt orange, what that would look like.’ That is how we talk to each other… You know ‘iron sharpens iron’ but I think there’s a difference between being critical, yeah!”
From finding out she was pregnant while filming "Harlem" to her babymoon with her husband Trai Byers, it’s been a whirlwind of a journey for Grace and her husband, but she's embracing every moment with grace (no pun intended).
