TV FAB: Jill Scott Takes Us Away With “Fool's Gold” Performance On “The View”

One of our fave YBF chicks blew us away with a performance on daytime television this morning. Jill Scott performed her single “Fool’s Gold” on “The View.” And it was everything. More inside, plus deets on our Jill Scott concert ticket giveaway for Thursday's Brooklyn show!

Celebrating 15 years in the game, Jill Scott has returned to the music world with a brand new album WOMAN, set to be released this Friday (July 24th).

Jilly from Philly hit up “The View” this morning to perform the first single from her upcoming LP, “Fool’s Gold” (which is currently #7 on Billboard R&B charts). And chick was singing lyrics that spoke to our soul.

After her soulful performance, the Grammy-Award winning singer and actress reflected on her 15-year journey in the game. On July 18, 2000, Jill released her debut album Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1. And now, 15 years later, the poetic songstress is blessing us with her fifth studio album, WOMAN, the follow up to the 2011 critically acclaimed The Light of The Sun.

While chatting with “The View” co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie Perez, the “Golden” singer revealed what she considers the biggest highlight in her career. She said,

“Let’s see, the highlight I think would be closing the Nobel Peace prize.”

The Philly native put on an explosive performance of "Hate On Me" at the Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo on December 11, 2011.

In between making classic albums, Jill has been working on movies (With This Ring,, Get On Up, Baggage Claim) and TV shows (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), but writing continues to be her first love. She revealed,

“The writing was first. I love to sing, but if I didn’t have anything to say, I didn’t want to sing.”

Jill started out as a spoken word artist where she met Questlove from The Roots. She then started writing songs for other artists. Next, she got into theater and realized she was good at it after booking gigs back-to-back. While perfecting her craft in theater, she landed her first record deal with Steve McKeever's Hidden Beach Recordings. And the rest is history.

Now, she’s on the road for a summer tour leading up to her new album’s release. Jill describes the sound of this album as “classic Philly soul meets Country rhythm served with captivating storytelling.” And we're SO here for it.

The tour—stopping in over 25 cities—kicked off July 9th in St Louis and will wrap on October 26th in Auckland, New Zealand.
