John Singleton's family now confirms the famed director will be taken off life support today. Details inside.
In sad news, 51-year-old south L.A. native, John Singleton, will be taken off life support today, this according to his family.
The Boyz n the Hood, Higher Learning & "Snowfall" director suffered a stroke earlier this month, and has been in a coma, reportedly mostly unresponsive, since then.
Today, his family confirms his family made the "agonizing decision" to remove him from life support.
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today,” said the statement, which was released by Singleton’s publicist around 10 a.m. Pacific time. “This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”
Aside from being the first African-American and the youngest person ever to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Director (and he won), John also was prolific in creating, directing and producing several now classic black-centered films. From Poetic Justice to Rosewood to even his newest tv profject, "Snowfall" on FX, he's been a prominent fixture on the black creative landscape.
He's also a father, a son, and an exceptional friend to his loved ones, including his close Hollywood friends like Taraji P. Henson, Ice Cube & Tyrese.
