The newest Lion King trailer just dropped. Grab your tissues. Because this paired with all this pollen....whew chillay.
Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. The new modernized remake of the classic animated tale is about to have us in our feelings in a whole different way it seems.
As the story is told, Simba (Donald Glover) idolizes his father, King Mufasa (James Earl Jones), and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
By the way, folks are NOT here for the less intimidating voice of Scar.
The all-star cast also includes Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon.
We don't know if it's because we're grown now, and we know exactly what's to come and the parts filled with extreme sadness. Or if the power of the growth of parents and children in this movie means way more to us now that we're adults - and many of us are parents ourselves. Or, if something so pure juxtaposed against this current hellaciousness that is the world is just too much to handle. All we know is, we ended up in a full on ugly cry after watching. And at the height of allergy season? Disrespectful.
Disney’s The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.
