The Coming 2 America sequel is shaping up with several of your faves joining the cast and few of your other faves returning to reprise their roles. Everything inside...
Not long after tea on the upcoming sequel to our all-time fav black cult-classic flick, Coming 2 America, was spilled, we now have learned that a slew of new faces, along with a few of the original cast mates will be joining the Coming 2 America sequel cast. Looks like the whole crew is back, plus more.
Power star and R&B crooner Rotimi, "The Last O.G." star Tracy Morgan, singer/actress Teyana Taylor, comedian Michael Blackson, "Crashing" actor Jermaine Fowler, If Beale Street Could Talk actress KiKi Layne, and comedienne Luenell will all be joining the cast.
And that's not all...
Original co-stars Vanessa Bell Calloway and Shari Headley are also joining Eddie Murphy and the rest of the star-studded cast for the sequel.
We were excited after learning that Eddie, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Paul Bates, Louie Anderson, and John Amos agreed reprise their roles in the long awaited remake. And when other favs, such as Wesley Snipes and Leslie Jones were added, we were extra hype. With the two main beauties from the original signed on, several actors from the original case, and a handful of newbies, the remake is sure to give us an authentic feel with a fresh twist.
In the original 1988 flick, Vanessa’s character, Princess Imani Izzi, came close to marrying Prince Akeem, played by Eddie in an arranged marriage approved by his father, King Jaffe Joffer, played by Jones. The image of Vanessa in that sexy gold dress and high ponytail is iconic! A few years ago the “Saints and Sinners” actress, along with Shari, took us back and rocked that same look for a Halloween episode of Steve Harvey’s talk show. She also slayed a remake photoshoot a few years ago, and WOW! Sis still has it going on!
Shari will be reclaiming her throne status as Prince Akeem’s wife, Lisa McDowell. In the sequel, Akeem is preparing to become king of Zamunda when he learns about his streetsavvy, Queens-bred son. Looking to crown the new prince, Akeem and of course, his sidekick, Semmi, played by Hall, set out to hit the streets of New York again.
Want to know who else is entering the kingdom? Rapper Rick Ross recently confirmed to Hot 97’s radio show, “Ebro in The Morning” that his 109-room Georgia palace is going to be featured in the flick. Deadline reports he'll also be starring in the film. Bawse!
Kenya Barris, Eddie Murphy, and Kevin Misher are producing and Craig Brewer (Hustle & Flow, "Empire") will direct, so it's in good hands.
Although Coming to America was one of those all-time classic films that some folks said shouldn’t be touched, the line-up of the cast is steadily changing that narrative. With a December 18, 2020 release date, we're marking our calendars in anticipation! Y'all ready?!
