Yesterday, Tyler Perry celebrated the opening of his Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, which is the first black-owned major film studio. Yep. Tyler is making some real boss moves in the industry and several of your faves came out to show him support.
The actor/director/writer unveiled his state-of-the-art Tyler Perry Studios, which sit on 330-acres. The mega studio has already hosted big projects like his MADEA films along with AMC’s “Walking Dead” and Marvel’s blockbuster hit Black Panther. It’s considered one of the largest production studios in the country with 12 soundstages, 40 buildings on-site that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and more than 200 acres of green space.
One of those soundstages has been dedicated to legendary actress Diahann Carroll, who passed away on Friday following a long bout with cancer. Tyler hopped on Instagram to pay tribute to the “Julia” actress, sharing how he had previously planned to pay tribute to the iconic actress before her passing.
”In less than 24 hours I was scheduled to dedicate a sound stage at my new studio to Diahann Carroll,” he wrote. “As I sat reviewing her video tribute, I got a request to call her daughter when she told me of her Mother’s passing. I did what I could to try and comfort her in this difficult time, but I know no words could soothe, however I prayed that it would."
He said Stage 5 in Tyler Perry Studios will forever hold the legacy Diahann Carroll left behind.
”I know you will live on in our hearts, but I’m so glad to know that your name will live on at Stage 5 at Tyler Perry Studios. Thank you for letting me honor you, and thank you for lending your legend to my studio to inspire generations to come. Rest well, as I know you are traveling to heaven on a first class cloud. You wouldn’t have had it any other way. God bless you. Love to your family.”
