Wesley Snipers - the original Nino Brown - says he's not here for a New Jack City reboot. Find out why inside...
Last month, it was announced a New Jack City reboot/sequel was in the works. However, Wesley Snipes – who led the original 1991 film as Nino Brown– isn’t here for it.
The film followed Nino Brown (Snipes), a New York City drug lord, and detective, Scotty Appleton (Ice-T), who goes undercover to infiltrate the group. The classic film also starred Ice-T, Chris Rock, Flavor Flav, Allen Payne and others with Mario Van Peebles making his directorial debut.
When news broke, it was reported the upcoming film would be a reboot, however, the projects writer, Malcolm M. May said it’s a “sequel.”
Whether it’s a reboot or a sequel, Wesley isn’t here for it. While on the promo trial for Dolemite Is My Name, Wesley spoke to Shadow & Act and the veteran actor was asked his thoughts about the upcoming project. He said he's not feeling it because he would rather they NOT do another movie surrounding drug culture.
"I'm not associated with it, you know. I'm have nothing to do with it at all," he shared.
He continued, "I think some things should be left alone...if it worked at the time under the circumstances. And the story was built around things that are current. I don't particularly like the idea of recreating the drug culture. For what? [...] I don't know. They actually talked to me about doing it and I told them no. If I had a dime for every time I've said no. It's a done deal, it's a wrap."
So yeah, don’t expect Wesley Snipes to make a cameo in the upcoming New Jack City reboot/sequel. He’s not with it.
