Gabrielle Union will NOT be returning as a judge on “America’s Got Talent” and the rumor mill claims it’s because she spoke out about racism and sexism going on behind-the-scenes. Sound familiar? More inside…
There’s seemingly some funny ish going on behind-the-scenes at “America’s Got Talent,” if the rumors hold any water.
Gabrielle Union will reportedly NOT return for Season 15 of “America’s Got Talent,” and it’s rumored the “Being Mary Jane” didn’t leave on her own. The “TODAY” show confirmed Gabby’s exit from the competition show. The explanation they gave was that she would be busy in the upcoming year “without projects.”
However, NBC sources are singing a different tune, telling Love B Scott that she was FIRED for speaking out about “problematic” racism and sexism going on behind-the-scenes at the show. And it seems “AGT” judge/executive Simon Cowell was the one who supposedly had her fired.
Her co-judge Julianna Hough will also not be returning for the upcoming new season.
“[Gabrielle’s] contract was not renewed after being the #1 talent on the show, NBC and network TV. She set the record for her Golden Buzzer. They only replace the women and blacks at Simon’s whim. She wouldn’t walk away from $12 million because she’s ‘busy.’ Based on weekly interactions on social media, by the time AGT finale aired Gabrielle was the #1 talent on network TV for 2019. Why not pick up someone’s option in extreme success?"
The source continued:
“Social media engagement is the new measuring stick for talent and Simon isn’t on social media. Juliane and Gabrielle were both way higher ranked/engaged than Howie. The idea the network wants to ‘switch things up’ only applies to women and Black folks."
"Nick Cannon wasn’t crazy. He walked away from 8-figures over how [AGT] operates.”
You’ll recall, former “AGT” host Nick Cannon made claims that he was threatened with termination by executives over a joke he made about NBC on a Showtime stand-up comedy special. They forced his hand after hosting 8 seasons.
“Let’s just say they didn’t start the racism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia etc. in season 14. They were quite comfortable with it all by the time Gabrielle got there. Remember Nick said ‘NBC stands for N*gga Be Careful.'”
TV personality Bevy Smith and EMMY winning journalist Kelley L. Carter chimed in the news of Gabby's reported "departure":
Thank you @itsgabrielleu for not going quietly into the night! I’m not remotely surprised, Nick Cannon told us already that it was shady dealings! You’re a great role model for your children, don’t just go along to get along! https://t.co/eGYhbBv0Bw

So let me get this straight ... the judge who single-handedly multiplied this show's social engagement and is the No. 1 talent on the show is out? Both women are out? All men are returning? Make it make sense. https://t.co/kvHoAGYSB1

Very good points.
Gabby doesn't seem to worried about it though:
Thoughts?
