What a sweet Thanksgiving tradition. The grandmother who accidentally texted a teen and invited him to Thanksgiving dinner years ago are still friends. More inside...
An unlikely friendship was formed a few years ago when a grandmother accidentally texted a teen on Thanksgiving and ended up inviting him over for dinner. They’re still keeping the tradition alive.
In 2016, Wanda Dench, now 62, accidentally texted Jamal Hinton, now 20, thinking he was her grandson, to invite him over for Thanksgiving dinner.

He shared their exchange on Twitter and it went viral. Every year since then, Jamal has come over for Thanksgiving.

Last year, Jamal brought his girlfriend Mikaela along to hang out with Wanda and her husband Lonnie on the special day. Over the years, they've become good friends, even hanging out with one another outside of just Thanksgiving.
“We’ve become really good friends,” Jamal told The Post. “Unfortunately, our schedules don’t usually line up too well and we live an hour and a half apart, but we have managed to have a couple dinners at her house and restaurants.”
Jamal told TIME initially he was hesitant about going to dinner with her, but after meeting her he decided to join Wanda and her family for the Thanksgiving feast.
"What made me want to go was that I went and actually met her and she was pretty nice. So I decided that I’d just go and enjoy the time with her,” he said. “It turned out to be a great thing.”
He plans to be there this year as well and he'll share the flicks after the Thanksgiving festivities:
