Action!
Singer Andra Day was spotted on the set of the Lee Daniels-directed biopic about jazz icon Billie Holiday. And chick nails it.
The Grammy nominated singer was spotted on the set on The United States vs. Billie Holiday in Montreal, Canada alongside Garrett Hedlund, who’s portraying Harry J. Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics.
The twosome was leaving the set after a long day’s work. They’ve been reportedly filming for about six weeks now.
The biopic will follow Billie Holiday’s career, specifically, the events that surrounded her narcotics arrest at her home in NYC in 1947. According to Deadline, Billie was “targeted by the Federal Department of Narcotics with an undercover sting operation led by black Federal Agent Jimmy Fletcher, with whom she had a tumultuous affair. The pic will intimately examine Holiday’s struggles with addiction, fame and heartbreaking love.”
The film will also follow her drug addiction which led to her death in 1959 at the age of 44. Other castmates include, Birdbox/Moonlight actor Trevante Rhodes, Hunger Games star Evan Ross, Dolemite Is My Name actress Da'Vine Joy Randolph, “Orange Is The New Black” star Natasha Lyonne, and Mudbound actor Garrett Hedlund.
