The nominations for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards are in and Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us” got snubbed! Meanwhile, Eddie Murphy, Beyonce and Cynthia Erivo all scooped up nominations. More inside…

And the nominations are in!

The Golden Globes – which is made up of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – just announced its nominees for the upcoming 2020 ceremony, which will recognize the excellence in film and television.

One major snub for the upcoming awards ceremony is Ava DuVernay’s masterpiece “When They See Us” not being nominated for ONE award. Not one. Arguably one of the best series to drop in 2019, the limited series told the story of five innocent teens – formely dubbed the Central Park Five - and their eventual exoneration for violent crimes they didn’t commit. We now call them the "Exonerated Five." The series - which sparked tons of conversation, both online & offline – became the most watched series on Netflix in the US. However, that still wasn’t enough to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award this year. Sadly.

On the brighter side....

Comedian/actor Eddie Murphy was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for his role in Netflix's Dolemite Is My Name. The movie was also in the running for Best Motion Picture.

Beyonce's track "Spirit" for Disney's The Lion King nabbed a nomination in the Best Original Song category. The Lion King was also nominated in the Best Motion Picture - Animated category.

"POSE" actor Billy Porter scored a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama category. Woot!

British actress Cynthia Erivo is in the running for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama category for her role as abolitionist Harriet Tubman in HARRIET. The Tony Award winner's song "Stand Up" was also nominated for the Best Original Song - Motion Picture category.

Jennifer Lopez landed a nomination in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her stripper role in HUSTLERS.

You can check out the full list of nominees here.

Congrats to the YBFers who were nominated!
