Who run the world? Girls!
Women are taking over in all aspects of the world, including business. And that’s proven to be true with the advancement of women landing high powered executive positions.
Desiree Perez served as COO of Jay-Z’s Roc Nation for a decade. Now, she’s leveling up!
Jay-Z has named Desiree Perez as the new CEO of the multi-hyphenate company, Roc Nation. Woot! Former CEO Jay Brown made the announcement during Billboard’s 2019 Women in Music Event held at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles recently. Jay Brown will now serve as Vice-Chairman of the company. Brown will continue to cultivate partnerships and expand the breadth of Roc Nation as a global powerhouse.
Mrs. Perez's appointment is effective immediately where she'll lead the one-stop music shop in the growth and development of the entire company, including music, management, all new business development, philanthropy, publishing, touring and TV and film development.
“I’m fair, I’m strong, and I’m transparent,” she told Billboard about her management style, which also includes picking up calls at all hours. “You never have to worry about what I’m thinking -- I’ll always tell you.”
“There’s so much more that has to be done, that has to happen,” Mrs. Perez said about the importance of diversity in the music business. “Women shouldn’t have to make excuses for who they are or how they speak or how they carry themselves, because I’ve never heard a man have to make that kind of excuse for how they carry themselves.”
The Bronx born native will run Roc Nation alongside head honcho Jay-Z, Vice-Chariman Jay Brown, co-founder/president of A&R Ty Ty Smith, and her husband/head of Roc Nation Sports Juan Perez.
During Billboard's Women in Music Event, Desiree was presented with the Executive of the Year award. Jay Brown did the honors of presenting her the award. In her acceptance speech, Desiree thanked the business partners who helped shape her life, including her partners Jay Z, Brown, her husband Juan Perez, Ty Ty Smith and more. She also gave a shoutout to all of the bad a** women doing it big in the industry. Peep her acceptance speech below:
