FOX execs spilled some lukewarm tea about an “Empire” spin-off about Cookie Lyon. He also dished on Jussie Smollett and the series finale. Find out what he said, plus peep flicks of “Empire” stars Taraji P. Henson, Vivica A. Fox and Tasha Smith having a ball inside…
Issa party!
“Empire” stars/on-screen sisters Taraji P. Henson, Vivica A. Fox and Tasha Smith linked up to party it up and kiki at FOX’s Winter TCA 2020 All-Star Party held at The Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena last night. Not only are they sisters on-screen, they’re also really good friends in real life. They’re constantly showering one another with love on social media, hanging out together and we LOVE to see it.
Fab!
The Golden Globe winner worked this blue sheer Preen By Thornton Bregazzi dress on the carpet before heading inside for the turn up with the All-Stars.
There has been talk about an "Empire" spin-off since the show made its debut in 2015 - specifically a series centered around Taraji's character, Cookie Lyon. Will fans get one? Well, it's still kind of in the air.
“We have talked about it but there has been no pitch, and there has been no deals,” FOX entertainment chief Michael Thorn said during TCA. “Would we like to keep Taraji on our air for as long as possible? Of course!”
“We have talked and continue to talk with the producers about spinoffs all the time, but when you have a show that’s iconic, if we are going to do it, it’s got to be great and hopefully worthy of being in the same sentence as the original,” he said, noting that there are ongoing conversations but “nothing formal.”
There's that.
Suited and booted! Vivica A. Fox served up boss chick vibes in a white Akris suit and gold Gianvito Rossi shoes.
Come through 'fro! Tasha Smith looked amazing in a black flowy high-low dress for the event.
If you were wondering - NO, Jussie Smollett will not be featured in the series finale. As you know, he was given the boot last season after his hate crime controversy came to a head.
“He is not coming back,” Thorn said, noting that Smollett’s character Jamal will likely be acknowledged. “It’s a shame,” Thorn said of the scandal, which took a toll on the cast and creative team of Empire but added that “the show is bigger than what happened to him.”
Nope. Jamal Lyon will not be making an appearances for the finale.
"Empire" returns this Spring. Will you be watching?
