Oh, hello gorgeous! Janelle Monae floated onto tonight's Oscars red carpet giving us Grace Jones meets Cinderella, and we stan. Get into her super bomb opening performance, and a sneak peek at the upcoming flick where she makes her leading lady debut.
Who's that girl?!
“I think the important takeaway is to listen to black women,” Janelle Monáe said on the Oscars red carpet. “When we are in positions of leadership, when we have your support, we can do the unthinkable. We can do the impossible.” Read our live coverage: https://t.co/gTn4PmvwQQ pic.twitter.com/eWBG5WnDhW

It's the one and only Janelle Monae, dropping gems while covered in crystals outside the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
Janelle rocked a custom, sparkling, Raph Lauren gown, covered in 108 Swarovski crystals, complete with a hood and an open back. Stunning! Just get into it real quick:
Loves it.
As soon as she gathered our lives on the carpet, she didn't let up as the opening act of the 2020 Academy Awards. She said proudly during the performance, “I'm proud to stand here as a black queer woman. Happy Black History Month!” And she took us from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to Janelle’s neighborhood. You gotta see it:
Janelle Monae tonight “It's time to come alive because the #Oscars is so white” and “I'm so proud to be standing here as a Black queer artist telling stories. Happy Black History Month !”
AND ALL THIS WITH ONLY BLACK DANCERS OMG WE STAN SO HARD

Using all black backup dancers dressed in tribute to films, she saluted women directors, women-led films (like Midsommar) and black-led films (like Us) and other amazing projects, whether they were nominated or not.
And yes, folks were wondering why the Oscars won't just let our girl host the whole damn thing.
She may get her chance soon, seeing that she officially has her first role as a leading lady. The Harriet star just dropped the trailer for her upcoming film, Antebellum, also starring Gabourey Sidibe. Check it:
You here for it?!
