Deyjah Harris – T.I. & Ms. Niko’s daughter – opens up about her mental health like never before. The YBFer delivered a Ted Talk on mental health that we all can appreciate during this time. Get into it inside…
We all could use a good motivational pep talk right about now.
Deyjah Harris – daughter of T.I. & Ms. Niko – opens up like never before in a new video uploaded to her YouTube account titled “Mental Health Matters: Part 1.” In the clip, the 18-year-old budding social media star shared her own story about struggling with depression, anxiety and having suicidal thoughts.
"Transparently speaking, depression and anxiety is something that I've been dealing with since about the age of 11," she said. "My self-esteem started to become an issue for me in the sixth grade due to bullying. I started to struggle with understanding what it was that I was feeling and I definitely knew that I wasn't able to express what it was that I was going through."
She said she wanted to share more about her personal struggles but decided not to in fear of how people would mishandle her truth. However, she shared several coping mechanisms that helps her manage her feelings in hopes of helping someone else who’s struggling with their mental health. She encouraged everyone to keep fighting and she let everyone know that they are worthy of being loved.
The video comes during the aftermath of controversy that was stirred up when her father revealed he would go to her OBGYN appointments to check if her hymen was still intact. He used that method as a means to determine if she was still a virgin or not. And he proudly let the world know she was still a virgin, which was embarrassing as hell for her. He later said it was a "joke" and publicly apologized to his daughter.
Deyjah - who stars on "T.I. & Tiny's Friends & Family Hustle" with her family - also took to her Instagram page to share with her followers that she had uploaded the video.
"No matter what challenges you deal with, no matter where you are with your recovery, no matter how flawed you might be, there is nothing that needs to be added or taken away from who you are as a person. you can be happy and prosperous in all aspects of your life and STILL struggle. mental illness doesn’t discriminate. you’ll never be the exception to recovery so just remember to treat yourself warmly," she wrote.
