CFDA Hops On The Inclusion Train & Taps Its First Black President CaSandra Diggs

There’s a new fashion head in the industry. CFDA chose CaSandra Diggs as their new president, making her the first black person to hold the position. More inside….

There’s a new boss in the fashion world!

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) named CaSandra Diggs as its new president. She’s the first person of color to ever hold the position since the organization was founded in 1962. Woot!

In her new role, she will be tasked with developing developing strategy and making decisions that further the CFDA’s purpose to champion, educate and support its membership and the fashion industry.

CaSandra previously served as the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s CFO and joined the CFDA almost 20 years ago in 2001. She will report to Steven Kolb, who was previously president and remains CEO of CFDA, as well as the organization’s board of directors. The news comes on the heels of black designers banning together to demand diversification in leadership in their field, including the CFDA.

“CaSandra is an innovative thinker with a strong understanding of organizational and business operations,” said Steven Kolb CFDA chief executive and former president. “Expanding her role will provide the CFDA with more opportunity to meet the needs of the membership in a broad and diverse way. It is a critical time for our industry, and she is the right person with the right ideas to help lead CFDA into the future.”

“CFDA remains a vital pillar of the fashion community,” CaSandra said in a statement. “I am delighted to join Tom Ford and Steven Kolb as we continue to advance and evolve the CFDA into a modern, forward thinking organization that is reflective of our times.”

In June, CFDA announced they were adopting new initiatives to promote equality in the fashion industry. One initiative is an in-house employment program that will be tasked with finding and placing black creatives throughout all sectors of the fashion industry, pairing individuals with companies that are looking to hire. Its second initiative is a mentorship program that will focusing on placing black students and recent graduates in internships with established fashion companies.

Major congrats, CaSandra Diggs!
