History has been made!
The Washington Football Team makes a move that puts them in a positive spotlight despite all of the backlash and scrutiny they’ve been receiving due to sexual assault and sex trafficking allegations.
Now, the organization is being praised for adding equality in a leadership position.
Former NFLer Jason Wright has been named as Washington Football Team's new president, making him the NFL’s first Black president! The 38-year-old is also the youngest team president in the league and only the fourth former player to rise to that position. Woot! The surprise announcement was made today during ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

“If I could custom design a leader for this important time in our history, it would be Jason,” owner Dan Snyder said. “His experience as a former player, coupled with his business acumen, gives him a perspective that is unrivaled in the league.”
And on the day the Washington Football Team hires a new president, former Washington Football Team Executive Vice President Eric Schaffer is hired by the sports representation company Athletes First. Schaffer now will work closely with agent Trace Armstrong.

"It's a huge moment to bring those two worlds together," Wright told ESPN. "What other job would they come together at such a unique time for an organization at the point our team is? I'm just happy I landed in this role at that time. There are other reasons it's historic, but that's a byproduct of me being the right and qualified candidate at this time. All of that is just icing on the cake."
He apoke on why he understands the significance of his hiring.
"What it tries to signal is that, at least in this organization, the hindrances that tend to be in place around Black talent in other places are breaking down," he said, "and that should send a signal more broadly to the shift in culture that Dan and Tanya Snyder, Coach Rivera and myself are now trying to make."
Washington had been without a president since Bruce Allen was fired in December 2019.
After playing in the NFL, James went on to receive an MBA, graduating with high honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. HE then worked for global strategy and management consulting firm, McKinsey & Company, and became a a partner in the Operations Practice, based in D.C.
Now, he's doing big thing in the NFL...again. Congrats!
The new hire comes after the team dropped the controversial name “Redskins” and temporarily renamed itself to the Washington Football Team until they decide on a permanent name. The team is also trying to move past those sexual harassment allegations made by over 15 employees against execs who worked for the team.
