2020 started with Megan Thee Stallion having fun on social media, posting twerk videos in sexy Savage x Fenty lingerie after breaking the Internet (TikTok included) with her SAVAGE track and the remix with Beyonce.
Then, things took a turn for the worse when she filed a $1 million lawsuit against her record label, 1501 Certified Entertainment. The 25-year-old entertainer made claims that her record company – owned by former MLB player Carl Crawford – was blocking her from releasing new music. She wanted to re-negotiate her contract because she was not pleased with what she was being paid. The “WAP” rapper also revealed Carl was using his relationship with Rap-a-Lot Records founder J. Prince to intimidate her.
Around the time she was beefing with her record label, she was dealing with the fact she lost her mother and grandmother last March. When Summer rolled around, all hell broke loose.
One-minute fans were watching Meg live it up on IG Live with Kylie Jenner and Tory Lanez. Next thing you know, there were reports of Meg getting shot and Tory was arrested on a gun charge. Weeks went by and Meg remained mum, which only fueled rumors about what went down even more.
Everyone seemingly had an opinion about the situation – like Draya who lost her Savage x Fenty ambassador gig for weighing in and 50 Cent who eventually apologized for his comments. When she got ready to talk about the situation, the REALER rapper eventually came online to reveal it was Tory that shot her in both feet and that she didn’t initially reveal the shooter because she was trying to “protect him.”
After the drama, the Houston Hottie collaborated with Cardi B for “WAP” and the track quickly climbed to the top of charts. Of course, insecure males and “pick me” women had only negative things to say about the track, but that didn’t stop the track from dominating the music charts and social media.

Now, she’s on the cover of TIME magazine after nabbing a spot on the magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2020 list! She posted the huge deal on Instagram saying:
"STILL I RISE YOUNG BLACK WOMAN FROM HOUSTON TEXAS ON THE COVER OF TIME MAGAZINE AS ONE OF THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD"
And guess what? Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson interviewed her for the story!
"I don't like to put the stigma of the word strong on Black women because I think it dehumanizes us, but she has strength -- strength through vulnerability," the "Empire" star wrote in the issue. "She is the epitome of tenacity. She was shot this summer and still people tried to tear her down. It's just invigorating to see her become a platinum-selling artist with multiple No. 1 songs like she's got a plan that's much bigger, and I just want her to keep winning."
We love to see the sisterhood.
"It's invigorating to see her become a platinum-selling artist with the viral hit 'Hot Girl Summer' and multiple No. 1 songs in the past year, 'Savage' and 'WAP.' But you would be a fool to think that's all there is to her. She's deep."
The “Empire” star – who recently turned 50 – talked about how she felt when she first heard Meg on a track and what drew her to the Houston native.
"She rode the beat like I'd never heard anybody ride the beat in a long time—and I'm a hip-hop head," Taraji wrote.
The Proud Mary star also addressed how Meg continued to push through even after being hit with tragedy:
"She's lost much of her family -- her mother, her father, her grandmother -- yet she is the epitome of tenacity, of pulling herself up by her bootstraps. She was shot this summer, and still people tried to tear her down."
