Here’s How The White House Is Spinning Trump Saying He Intentionally Downplayed COVID-19 That Has Now Killed 191K Americans

The Trump administration is in overdrive to spin comments made by Trump about the Coronavirus pandemic. He admits to downplaying the threat of the virus in recordings journalist Bob Woodward gathered during interviews. Get the latest inside…

As of today, 191,000+ people in the United States have died from COVID-19 related deaths.

Now, proof of what most of us already knew (Trump KNEW the severity of the virus & didn’t give a damn) has come out and the Trump administration is now working in overdrive to spin the controversy.

Investigative journalist Bob Woodward - who helped break the Watergate scandal in the 70s that eventually brought down President Richard Nixon - spoke with Trump a total of 18 times from December 2019 to July 2020. He recorded these interviews for his upcoming book titled, “Rage,” the follow-up to his 2018 bestseller "Fear: Trump in the White House.”

In the book, Woodward said Trump KNEW the Coronavirus was “deadly” and worse than the flu, but he continued to mislead and gaslight Americans.

In January, Trump was reportedly told COVID-19 could be as “deadly as the as the influenza pandemic of 1918 [which killed an estimated 50 million people worldwide, including 675,000 Americans], and that asymptomatic spread was occurring in China.”

Ten days later, Trump chopped it up with Woodward (privately) and revealed he knew the virus was far more serious than what he had been saying publicly.

“You just breathe the air and that’s how it’s passed,” Trump said on Feb. 7th. “And so that’s a very tricky one. That’s a very delicate one. It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flus.”

During a call on March 19th (a few days after major cities shutdown), Trump said:

"Now it’s turning out it’s not just old people, Bob. Just today and yesterday, some startling facts came out. It’s not just old- older. Young people too, plenty of young people."

Literally, the very next day, Trump lied to the American people in a press conference where he said the virus “snuck up” on us. Not true. He totally disregarded what health experts - like Dr. Anthony Fauci - were saying about the virus and he literally was saying the first thing that popped into his mind during the press briefings, which is very problematic and dangerous to say the least. The American people learned the hard way.

After the recordings were leaked, Trump defended the comments he made to Bob Woodward in the recordings. He admitted to intentionally downplaying the virus because he didn’t want to spark panic and he wanted to “show strength as a nation.”

“I’m a cheerleader for this country,” Trump said. “I don’t want people to be frightened; I don’t want to create panic. “I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down, because I don’t want to create a panic.”

Didn't want to create panic?  Like the (false) panic he creates daily when he tells his base that everyone who doesn't look like them is coming to loot their homes and take their jobs and kill them?

Check it:

Oh, but he doesn’t keep that same energy when talking about the recent protests against racism and police brutality. We all know why.

Vice President Mike Pence said on FOX News that Trump's decision to downplay the virus had no effect on the nation's ability to contain the pandemic.

"Absolutely not," Pence said on Fox News when asked if Trump's public dismissiveness of the virus limited the ability of the U.S. to contain the pandemic. "His tone was one of projecting calm and confidence," Pence said. "But I heard him at that podium, I heard him at every setting. We gave the American people the facts."

How did Trump give us the facts when he literally was saying the opposite of what health experts were saying about the virus when it first hit?! Make it make sense.

Before Trump’s admission, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany pretty much lied when she said Trump “never downplayed” the virus. Girl, did you not listen to the recordings?! Check it:

Health experts have been slamming Trump for downplaying the virus. Valuable time was lost that could have saved many lives.

“Clearly, he admits that this was airborne, a respiratory illness,” said Kavita Patel, a primary care physician and health policy expert who served in the Obama White House in an interview with MSNBC. “I think about how much we fumbled, even myself in the beginning, with recommending that people not wear masks. First we thought, no, we don’t want to take away masks from medical personnel. Now we have studies that show that if we’d had widespread mask-wearing mandates, we could have reduced deaths by as much as 20% to even 50%."

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden called Trump’s handling of the Coronavirus “almost criminal.”

“He waved the white flag,” Biden told CNN’s Jake Tapper in an interview scheduled to be aired in full on Thursday afternoon. “He walked away. He didn’t do a damn thing – think about it! And it’s almost criminal.”

"This caused people to die. And what did he do the whole time?" Biden said. "He acknowledged this -- you breathe it, it's in the air -- and he won't put on a mask. He's talking about, 'It's ridiculous to put on a mask, what do you need social distancing for? Why have any of these rules?'"

Very good points that many Americans agree with. Why do we need Trump as a leader, and he can’t even lead effectively?! His job is to provide the American people with FACTS. Instead, he did the total and complete opposite and it resulted in almost 200,000 people losing their lives. It’s literally life or death.

”RAGE” will be released September 15th.

Earlier this week, Trump threatened to defund schools that teach the “1619 Project". He said the Department of Education is examining the project and warned schools that teach on this piece of American history they could lose federal funding.

The project is based on the premise that American history began in 1619 -- cited as the date African slaves arrived in Virginia -- and that everything following this should be viewed through that lens. The Pulitzer Center released a school curriculum based on the project, and Trump responded to a tweet stating that California would be using it.
