Mariah Carey has a memoir coming down the pipeline. Before its released, MiMi spilled some tea on what fans can expect. Miscarriage? Derek Jeter affair?! Get it all inside…
You may think you know, but you have no idea.
Mariah Carey has provided the soundtrack to our lives over the last three decades. Throughout her career, the Grammy Award winner has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. We’ve been through it all with the Elusive Chanteuse singer. Happiness. Heartbreak. Pain. Love. All of it.
What we didn’t know is what the R&B songstress was dealing with behind-the-scenes.
Yes, we’ve all heard about her highly publicized physical and emotional breakdown. In 2018, she revealed she had been denial about her battle with bipolar disorder.
We’ve watched her fall madly in love and the drama that followed after a breakup (*coughs* billionaire lover James Packer *coughs*). And most of us remember the commercial failure of her film Glitter. However, more was happening behind-the-scenes and she’s now (nervously) opening up about those events (via Vulture) in her upcoming memoir, “The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.”
There was one moment on national television that Mariah Carey revealed made her super uncomfortable. In 2008, there were rumors that the “My All” singer was pregnant with her husband Nick Cannon’s baby. She didn’t want to talk about it, but daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres did. And the daytime TV host tried to trick her into confirming that she was in fact carrying a child.
During the segment, Ellen seemingly tried to trick MiMi into revealing her pregnancy. She offered her a glass of champagne on the show and it got really weird after that.
"People are saying that you're pregnant," Ellen said to Mariah as she powered champagne.
"I don't discuss that," the singer responded while nervously laughing. "I can't believe you did this to me, Ellen," Mariah said after objecting to the bubbly, dubbing it too “fattening.” She was forced to announce her pregnancy although she didn’t want to.
Peep the clip below:
Shortly after, Mariah suffered a miscarriage.
“I was extremely uncomfortable with that moment is all I can say,” Mariah said. “And I really have had a hard time grappling with the aftermath.”
“I wasn’t ready to tell anyone because I had had a miscarriage. I don’t want to throw anyone that’s already being thrown under any proverbial bus, but I didn’t enjoy that moment.” Carey goes on to say that there is “an empathy that can be applied to those moments that I would have liked to have been implemented. But what am I supposed to do? It’s like, [sings] ‘What are you going to do?’ ”
Later, Mariah welcomed twins Monroe and Moroccan in April 2011 with Nick Cannon.
Unfortunately for Ellen, Mariah’s story is parallel to what former employees have described as a toxic work environment. If you missed that story, get the deets HERE.
Oh, and get this…

The songbird also revealed she engaged in a fling with former NY Yankees legend Derek Jeter while she was still married music mogul Tommy Mottola. In her defense, she said her marriage was on the rocks.
So check it, two songs from her epic Butterfly album (released in 1997) was about Derek Jeter! She revealed “My All” and “The Roof” were about him.
After meeting Derek at a dinner party, she said they started secretly “text-flirting.” Hmm…in the 90s? Either way, they were in correspondence.
Knowing that fans already suspected the song “The Roof” was about her first meeting with him made it easier for her to reveal what she wore the night they had a clandestine kiss on the roof (get it?) of his apartment building. There was Moët. She wore a buttery leather Chanel skirt. She remembers her boots and the rain and her hair curling in stunning detail.
“Of course I do! I can never forget that moment,” she says. “I mean, it’s not like it was some intensely deep, intellectually stimulating — again, it was a great moment, and it happened in a divine way because it helped me get past living there, in Sing Sing, under those rules and regulations.” When she belts, “I’d risk my life to feeeeyall / Your body next to mine,” in “My All,” it’s because she really was risking her life to have a night with Jeter in Puerto Rico, she says.
OH?! MiMi was on some “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” vibes. Surprised she didn't get caught by Tommy with the way she described how controlling he was back then.
And then she shared this epic story about Jay-Z, Chaka Khan and Prince (RIP!):
“Oh, remember,” Carey says, lurching into another tale, “Jay [as in Z] has that great story of when we were all there together at the club and Prince was taking so long to perform? Whatever, it’s a long story, but he didn’t go on until like 5 a.m. with Chaka Khan, who was having Hennessy and smoking and still singing like a trumpet, and it was amazing. It was amazing.”
Imagine. You can read more here.
From what we gather, this memoir is going to be a juicy read with some content that'll be enough to “surprise even her best friends.”
"The Meaning of Mariah Carey" is set to be released September 29th. Small book club anyone?
