Vanessa Bryant Says Her Mom’s ‘Frivolous & Embarrassing’ Lawsuit Is Trying To Extort Her For Money!

Vanessa Bryant's mom - Sofía Urbieta Laine - is WILDIN'! She’s suing her widowed daughter for “unpaid” wages she claims she’s owed for work as a “nanny and personal assistant” for the Bryant Family. With family like this, who needs enemies? More inside…

It’s bad enough Vanessa Bryant is still grieving the death of her husband/NBA icon Kobe Bryant and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant. Now, she has to deal with her own MOTHER suing her - all in the name of greed.

Vanessa’s mother - Sofía Urbieta Laine – has reportedly filed a lawsuit against her daughter for unpaid wages she feel she deserves after serving as a “personal assistant” and “nanny” to the Bryant Family over the years. Kobe’s widow says her mother is trying to "extort a financial windfall" from her family following the death of her husband.

The 68-year-old grandmother of Kobe’s four children is suing her 38-year-old daughter for financial support. According to Sofia, she worked as a nanny and personal assistant to the Bryant family and she wants to be compensated for it. In the lawsuit, she noted that before Kobe’s death (January 26th), he had promised to take care of her “for the rest of her life.”

"Unfortunately, Kobe Bryant's promises did not see the light of day as he is now deceased, and Vanessa Bryant took each and every step she could to void and cancel all of Kobe Bryant's promises made to [Laine],” the lawsuit said. “Vanessa Bryant did not intend to honor any of the Bryants' representations, agreements and promises at any stage."

Vanessa Bryant claims this is farthest from the truth and that her mother is simply trying to make a come up.

We knew something was up when her mother first did that interview with Univision back in September, making claims Vanessa had kicked her out of her home and repossessed her car.

Now, Sofia claims she has been totally cut off. But, Vanessa claims that’s NOT true.

Vanessa first responded to her mother’s lawsuit in Spanish on Instagram:

She wrote:

"My mother keeps trying to find ways to get a financial windfall from our family. I have supported her for almost twenty years, and she was never my personal assistant or Kobe's or babysitter. I have always been a home mother and my husband and I took care of our children all the time. For almost two decades, we arranged for my mother to live in our nearby properties at no cost to her because she had claimed that she had no money to buy her own home after her divorce. my husband and I thought it was better for her not to live in our house. she took care of our girls from time to time, as most grandparents do. she did not deal with business matters or expenses. She was a grandmother who was supported by me and her son-in-law at my request to charge her $ 96 per hour for supposedly working 12 hours a day for 18 years to care for her grandchildren.”

”Actually, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were little. Ten years ago, our children were full-time students and athletes and I did not have another child until 2016. Her claims are obviously false, but I still tried, repeatedly, to fix things with my mother. Contrary to what it says, I have not left my children's side since the accident, except to visit the cemetery and make arrangements. Earlier this year, she was looking for a new home for herself, and a week later she went on TV and gave an interview in which she despised our family and made false accusations while living rent-free in a gated apartment complex in Newport Coast. Even after that tradition, I was willing to give my mother monthly support for the rest of her life and that was not good enough.

”On the other hand, she contacted me through intermediaries (contrary to what she claims, my phone number has not changed) and demanded 5 million, a house and a Mercedes truck. Because I did not give in to her hurtful threats and monetary requests, she has gotten out of control making false and absurd claims. now she is trying to get more money than my husband and I spent to support her while she continues to collect her ex-husband's monthly alimony since 2004. My husband and I have never discouraged or prevented her from supporting herself. This demand is frivolous, embarrassing and promised nothing to my mother, and I would be very disappointed with her behavior and lack of empathy.”

The mother-of-four also responded to her mother’s lawsuit on her IG Stories, explaining how her mother is back charging her $96/hour for allegedly working 12 hour days for 18 years for looking after her grandchildren. She said the lawsuit is frivolous and embarrassing!

”In reality, she only occasionally babysat my older girls when they were toddlers. As of ten years ago, our kids were full time students and athletes and I didn’t have another child until 2016,” she wrote.

Vanessa said she has tried to work with her mother after the tragic death of her husband and daughter, but “that wasn’t good enough.” Vanessa said her mother reached out through intermediaries demanding $5 million, a house and a Mercedes SUV.

Since Vanessa didn’t give in to her moms demands, Sofia filed the lawsuit, “making false and absurd claims."

”She is now trying to ger more money than my husband and I ever spent to provide for her while he was alive. She has no regard for how this is affecting my children and me. She wants to live off of my daughters and me for the rest of her life while continuing to collect monthly alimony from her ex-husband since 2004.”

”My husband never promised my mother anything, and he would be so disappointed in her behavior and lack of empathy,” she wrote.

Just, WOW. Her mother is SO problematic for this! To sue your child for money while she's grieving the sudden lost of her husband and daughter. It's sickening. Prayers up for Vanessa that she can stay strong during this unfortunate time in her life.
