FOR THE CULTURE! Swizz Beatz & Timbaland Sell VERZUZ To Triller! Now, All The Artists Who Participated Are Stakeholders In The Video App

Swizz Beatz and Timbaland are not only making moves for themselves, but for the culture as well! Deets on the superproducers selling VERZUZ to video app Triller and what them means for their pockets, as well as the pockets of the artists who have already participated inside….

History made!

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the music world was SHOOK up as artists were no longer able to travel and perform, which in turn hit their pockets. Producers Swizz Beatz & Timbaland came up with the “live battle concept” back in 2018 when they competed in a producer battle.

Once the pandemic hit, they took their live battle concept to social media and the rest – as they say – is history.

VERZUZ blew up! It started solely on Instagram Live before it went on to establish integrations with Apple Music and Twitter.

Now, the beat-battle series is being taken to another level.

VERZUZ has been acquired by the Triller app’s parent company Triller Network. And if you’ve never heard of Triller, it’s like TikTok rooted in Hip-Hop, which sounds like the perfect home for VERZUZ.

Swizz and Timbo have joined the Triller VERZUZ management team and will serve as brand visionaries. Also, the superproducers are “larger shareholders” in the Triller Network. And it gets better.

All 43 creatives who participated in a VERZUZ battle to date have been allocated “a portion of their equity" in the short-form video app, Triller. Creating an additional bag for artists? You KNOW they’re loving that.

The list of artists who now own equity in Triller includes: John Legend, DMX, Alicia Keys, 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Too $hort, Patti LaBelle, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, E-40, Bounty Killer, Ludacris, RZA, The-Dream, Babyface, Nelly, Jagged Edge, Fred Hammond, Jadakiss, Fabolous, Brandy, Monica, Gladys Knight, Boi-1da, Hit-Boy, Ne-Yo, Johnta Austin, Scott Storch, T-Pain, Lil Jon, DJ Premier, Mannie Fresh, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, 112, Kirk Franklin, Sean Garrett, and D’Angelo.

We noticed Teddy Riley, Keyshia Cole, Ashanti and a few others who participated in battles weren't listed.

“This is a momentous occasion not only for Verzuz and Triller but the music business as a whole,” Swizz Beatz and Timbaland said in a joint statement shared to Complex via email on Tuesday. “By putting Verzuz in the Triller Network ecosystem and expanding the Verzuz brand to be side by side with the powerful Triller app, we will be able to continue to grow and evolve the music business as a whole, as we have been doing. To have partners in Triller who share our vision, specifically to celebrate and elevate the amazing artists who continue to shape culture around the world and give the consumer more direct access, is game changing.”

“Our dream, the artists’ dream, today is realized, which is no small feat. Triller Verzuz is a company that’s by the artists, for the artists and with the people,” the two said.

In celebration of the mega deal, both Swizz and Timbo hopped on social media to share the good news:

Congrats!

Which VERZUZ Battle was your fave and who would you like to see next?
