Issa Rae Responds To That Reported ‘8-Figure Deal’ She Inked With WarnerMedia

Yes, Issa Rae has inked a mega deal with WarnerMedia. Woot! However, the Black creative has an issue with the reported amount. Find out what she said inside…

Issa Rae isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Yes, “Insecure” is filming its final season, however, she has more content coming for the stans, i.e. US.

The fab Black creative has reportedly inked a new five-year overall deal. Her Hoorae media label has partnered up with WarnerMedia, which gives HBO, HBO Max, and Warner Bros television exclusive rights to Issa’s work in television. Also, a first-look film deal is included in the deal that spans WarnerMedia brands, which include Warner Bros. Pictures Group, New Line and HBO Max.

It’s familiar territory for Issa as she previously signed a two-year overall deal with HBO in 2016. The pact was renewed for three more years in 2018.

“It’s really exciting to have that flexibility and just deepen the relationship that we already have,” Issa told Variety as part of the magazine’s March cover feature. “Hoorae already had at least 15 projects in various stages of development with them, so we’d been working with them on the drama side, the unscripted side, and the documentaries side for a couple years now.”

“When people believe in you and build with you, I tend to want to further that relationship. That’s just been a staple of mine with so many of the people that I work with.”

So get this…

Sources spilled tea to Variety about how much Issa earned in the deal, alleging that it's valued at $40 million over five years. The thing is, Issa claims it’s all CAP. On IG Stories, the two-time Golden Globe nominated actress responded to the reported 8-figure number, writing,

”Uhh, I would never announce how much money I’m making anywhere. I mind mine. Any numbers you read are CAP.”

Welp. There’s that.

In addition to working on the final season of “Insecure,” a second season of Robin Thede’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” where Issa is an executive producer, is in the works. Season 2 premieres in April.

If the deal is valued at $40 million (or anywhere near it), it falls in line with Donald Glover’s lucrative overall deal with Amazon. He’s leaving Disney’s FX after signing a huge 8-figure, multi-year deal with Amazon Studios.

In the cover story for Variety's March feature, Issa opens up about working with the Black Lives Matter movement and how she always knew she would end "Insecure" after five seasons.

“I always knew I was going to do these five seasons,” Issa told the publication. “Now that it’s coming to an end, and we’re shooting, I have no regrets. But there’s an element of knowing I’m going to miss this, and I don’t want to take this for granted. There’s no feeling like doing your first TV show and doing it with people who are also fresh with you, and growing and building with them.”

It's been a somewhat strange, yet emotional experience.

“In some ways, I’m saying RIP to that old version of myself and simultaneously, while terrified, excited about what the next chapter looks like,” she said.

We're going to miss "Insecure" madly, but we're hella excited to see what else Issa has in store. Congrats!
