Whew! We still feel like we need a drink as we process everything that was said during Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s candid interview with media mogul Oprah.
Outside of all of the drama and controversy the couple addressed, they also announced the gender of their second child! It’s a girl!
The happy couple revealed they will be welcoming a baby girl this summer, so it won’t be long before they’re all wrapped up in love.
"To have any child, any one or two, would be amazing. But to have a boy and then a girl, what more could you ask for? Now we’ve got our family, the four of us and our two dogs. It’s great," said Harry.
So, do they plan to have more?!
“Two it is,” Harry responded, seemingly confirming they wouldn’t have any more children.
The new addition to the Sussex clan will be the fifth grandchild of Prince Charles and the late Princess Diana. Their son Archie Harrison, who turns 2 on May 6th, will soon be a big brother.

The Duke & Duchess of Sussex announced they were expecting baby #2 a day after Valentine’s Day just like Harry’s mother baby #2 announcement. Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana announced she was expecting him in February 1984. While the Palace made the announcement on Feb. 13, it hit the newspapers on Valentine’s Day.
No subject was off limits and NO Meghan & Harry were not PAID to do this CBS interview with Oprah. The couple simply wanted to share THEIR side of the story as to why they left the British Royal Family and the UK.
In the beginning, Meghan revealed she “didn’t look up” her husband (or the royal family) before she “naively” went into her marriage with the Prince. She said she never researched what it would mean to actually be a member of the royal family and that she didn’t “fully understand what the job” entailed.
While she said she was first welcomed into the family with open arms, “everything changed” after the British press put out a story that accused Meghan of making Kate Middleton cry, which Meghan denied ever happened.
”The reverse happened,” Meghan said about her run-in with Kate. Hmph.
The former “Suits” actress declined to share all of the details of everything that happened between her and Kate, but Meghan did confirm it was actually HER in tears following a conversation with the Duchess of Cambridge about the flower girls’ dresses as they were planning her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
"It was a really hard week of the wedding," Meghan said. "She was upset about something, and she owned it."
After the disagreement, Meghan said Kate sent her flowers and a note.
FUN FACT: Three days before the royal wedding, Meghan & Harry got married in the backyard with their dog and archbishop. No one knew.
“The Firm” (as Meghan coined the BRF) not dispelling the rumors that Meghan made Kate cry made her realize the royal family (on the "business side") didn’t have her back.
“It’s a family business,” Meghan explained. “There’s the family and then the people running the institution. The Queen has always been wonderful to me.”
While these false reports about her making Kate cry were circulating, Meghan said she was “silenced” by the firm.
“Everyone in my world was given very clear directive to say no comment,” she said. “Even as things started to roll out in the media… I said ‘Don’t worry, I’m being protected’. I believed that and that was really hard to reconcile because it was only once we were married and things started to worsen that I realized I was not being protected but they were willing to lie to protect other members of the family but they weren’t prepared to tell the truth to protect me.”
Talk about betrayal.
Another moment Meghan felt slighted by the monarchy was when she was told her & Prince Harry’s son, Archie, would NOT receive a title and that he would not receive security. The likely reason? His skin tone.
She said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin was going to be when he was born.” Later, Harry confirmed the conversations were true, but he wasn’t going to discuss who said what and what was specifically said.
On “CBS This Morning,” Oprah revealed it was NOT Queen Elizabeth II or Prince Philip (Harry's grandparents) who was concerned about Archie’s skin tone, as Harry told her later.
Meghan revealed she considered "not living anymore" due to ll of the stress this family caused her.
As for the traditional family pic the royals traditional take after the baby is born, Meghan said they were never asked to take a picture. You’ll recall, reports at the time said SHE declined to take the family portrait.
Things got so bad for the 39-year-old mother that she started having strong suicidal thoughts.
”I didn’t want to be alive anymore,” she revealed.
After suffering with these thoughts, she reached out to the “institution” for help but was turned down.
“It takes so much courage to admit that you need to help,” she said.
After an hour in, Prince Harry joined the conversation where he confirmed he did NOT blindside the Queen with his departure from senior royal duties, despite the reports saying he did.
“No. I never blindsided my grandmother. I have too much respect for her,” he responded.
Prince Harry said he had three conversations with his grandmother and two conversations with his father, Prince Charles, and that he also put it in writing that he was stepping away from his royal duties. He said his father eventually stopped taking his calls after he said he had to take a stand for the mistreatment of his family.
When asked why he left, he responded, “Lack of support. Lack of understanding.” In a bonus clip released after the airing of the interview, Prince Harry revealed racism was a huge reason why he and Meghan decided to leave the UK.
Hmph.
Another bombshell that was dropped: Prince Harry said the royal family cut him off financially in the first quarter of 2020 (just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit) after announcing they were stepping down as senior royals. He said he had to rely on an inheritance his later mother, Princess Diana, left him to sustain.
"I've got all my mom left me and without that we would not be able to do this," Harry said.
The couple received a lot of backlash when news hit about them inking deals with Netflix and Spotify, but the truth of the matter is that they NEEDED that money. They had “no plan.”
Thank God for billionaire friends like Tyler Perry.
After leaving the UK, Meghan & Harry relocated to Canada, but their location was publicized by the tabloids, so they had to move. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic started to ramp up and he knew they had to make a move…FAST.
"So suddenly it dawned on me, 'Hang on, the borders could be closed, we're going to have our security removed, who knows how long lockdown is going to be, the world knows where we are, it's not safe, it's not secure, we probably need to get out of here," Harry continued.
Filmmaker Tyler Perry invited the couple and their baby to stay at one of his California mansions rent-free. The Duke & Duchess of Sussex ended up living there for three months with a security detail also provided by Tyler Perry. Meghan said Tyler’s generosity "gave us breathing room to try to figure out what we were going to do.”
Meghan and Harry are now living in their own house in the Santa Barbara area.
Prince Harry was visibly saddened when he talked about his relationship with his brother, Prince William, and his father, Prince Charles.
”The relationship is space at the moment,” Harry said about his current relationship with his brother, Prince William. He said he loved his brother “to bits,” but they are “on different paths. “Time heels all things,” he explained.
As for his relationship with his father, he did a long pause before answering.
“I feel really let down because he’s [Prince Charles] been through something similar and Archie is his grandson. I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened. I will make it one of my priorities, to heal that relationship.”
Prince Harry said his relationship with his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, is good and that they had Zoomed with the Queen with Archie recently.
In an unseen clip from the interview, Prince Harry shared how he was snubbed by his grandmother:

At the end of the interview, Oprah asked if they had any regrets and Meghan got candid:
"I have one. My regret is believing them when they said I would be protected. I believed that," she said. "And I regret believing that because I think had I really seen that that wasn't happening, I would have been able to do more. But I think I wasn't supposed to see it. I wasn't supposed to know. And now we're actually on the other side, we've actually not just survived but are thriving. This? Miracles. I think that all of those things I was hoping for have happened."
Prince Harry credited Meghan for "saving" him after explaining how "trapped" he felt in the "institution" that is the royal family. He said he would have never left if it weren't for Meghan.
"Without question, she saved me," Harry said.
The ratings for the two-hour "Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special" were high, pulling in a 2.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 17.1 million viewers for the network in early numbers. More people watched this interview thatn last September’s Primetime Emmys and last week’s Golden Globes combined.
