Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade open up about their parenting styles and how they have decided to raise their family, including D. Wade’s transgender daughter, Zaya, and his son from another relationship, 7-year-old son Xavier. More inside...

Some may look at Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade’s parenting styles as…. controversial. However, the couple is secure with the way they are raising their children and they are sharing gems about their parenting styles to produce successful children.

The celeb couple is currently raising 19-year old Zaire and 13-year-old Zaya, who Wade shares with ex-wife Siohvaughn Funches, 7-year-old Xavier, who Wade shares with ex Aja Metoyer, 2-year-old Kaavia James, and 19-year-old Dahveon, D. Wade's nephew.

The Wades- who cover PEOPLE magazine’s newest issue - are strong supporters of the LGBTQ+ community. As you recall, Zaya Wade – D. Wade’s 13-year-old daughter - came out as trans last year.

"When I look at Zaya, I get hope because I'm like, okay, we raised [our kids] to be authentic,” D. Wade said.

"I come from a locker room of a macho, male-dominant sport," he continued. "But I started learning and I started to watch her. And from then on, we started having more conversations."

"If we allow our kids to be their true selves," D.Wade said, "we don't have to worry about them conforming with anything or anyone. Why wouldn't we push our kids to be their authentic selves?"

The “Being Mary Jane” star shared her reactions to Zaya coming out as trans:

"We weren't coming into it like it's got to be our way," she said. "We're going to mess up. We're going to say the wrong thing. But we had to learn and be led."

She continued:

"Our home will never be a safe space for bigots. I look at problematic language as violence and I'm never going to expose anyone I love to violence, whether that be verbal, physical, emotional, or spiritual. Jerks exist in every area of life. And we function from a place of truth in our household. But if you come at us, oh, be very prepared."

D. Wade added:

"We want to make sure [our kids] feel strong and supported and free to be exactly who they are," Gabrielle finished, with Dwyane adding, "What I love about our home is that everybody is unique. And we allow their uniqueness to shine."

Can’t even be mad at that.
