Folks aren’t feeling how the Oscars seemingly favored Chadwick Boseman to win the Best Actor Award, but the golden statue was awarded to The Father’s Anthony Hopkins. Peep folks responses, plus how Chadwick’s family feels about it all inside…
With the changes made to the 2021 Oscars ceremony, it appeared the late Chadwick Boseman, who died last August from cancer, was the front-runner to win the award for Best Actor for his role as Levee Green in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
The winner for Best Picture is usually announced last. However, producers changed it up this year, moving the Best Actor winner announcement until the final award, leading some to believe producers set the stage to end the ceremony with a touching tribute to Chadwick. He had already won a Golden Globe, Critics Choice award and Screen Actors Guild award for the role leading up to the Grammys, leaving many to believe he would win an Oscar next.
The Academy also invited Chadwick’s family to attend the ceremony in celebration of his talents.
Folks feel like Chadwick was SNUBBED and were shocked and upset when his name wasn’t called as the winner. Not only snubbed, but they are also accusing the Academy of using his death for financial gain and clout.
It’s reported the Oscars swag bag included a tribute to Chadwick Boseman where each nominee received digital artwork by artist Andre Oshea, redeemable by an NFT – a non-fungible token.
Idk what’s worse the fact that it’s an Nft, the fact that Chadwick Boseman’s death is being commodified, or that this is in every Oscar nominees’ gift bags https://t.co/LVc5Nk04mE

After all of the build up to Chadwick seemingly being the winner, that wasn’t the case. The Best Actor award went to Anthony Hopkins for The Father and he wasn’t even there in person to accept the award, nor did he Zoom in.
Anthony Hopkins accepted the award from home in a short video, which was posted early Monday morning. The 83-year-old actor thanked the Academy and shared a heartfelt salute to the late Chadwick Boseman.

By the way, Anthony Hopkins is now the oldest actor, male or female, to earn an Oscar.
Here are some distraught reactions to Chadwick NOT winning Best Actor below:
Wait what was that Game of Thrones style ending?? Andra Day and Chadwick Boseman were robbed... #Oscars pic.twitter.com/ykMorfq6qy

Wow, what a massively bad idea. And this overshadows the fact that both Anthony Hopkins and Chadwick Boseman were brilliant and one of them had to win. The spotlight is now shining solely on the producers. Huge mistake. From In Memoriam on, this show was a disaster.

its sick how transparent the academy was in using chadwick boseman just for clicks and views, building everything up to the best actor award and inviting his family and giving him a tribute AND putting his head in gift bags and not giving him ANYTHING.... he deserves more respect

award shows need to stop nominating people who pass away if they aren’t going to give them the award. chadwick boseman gave unbelievable performances in his short time and to not give him that award after all he’s done is repulsive. it’s disrespectful to him and his family

Chadwick Boseman was an icon, delivering so many incredible performances throughout his career.
The #Oscars have proven once again that they have no idea what they’re doing. Sending love to Chadwick’s family & friends. pic.twitter.com/6lVoTKm7rv

It’s not about Chadwick Boseman losing;
It’s about the oscars using his death for a ratings boost, giving away virtual trading cards of him, inviting his family to the event and ending the show abruptly knowing they finessed everyone.

So.... was Chadwick Boseman's family involved or even consulted on this at all??? Even if it had stayed 100% for charity instead of only 50%, it would still feel extremely gross and wrong unless his family had approved of it somehow. https://t.co/enn9R0vSMU

I think we all take Anthony Hopkins for granted these days, but he's one of the best actors of all time. Sad for Chadwick Boseman's family, but the Oscar producers effed up for building the end of their show around an assumption.

The Oscars were so sure that Chadwick Boseman was going to win that they REARRANGED THE ENTIRE CEREMONY so his category could be last, and then they gave the award to Anthony Hopkins instead...the most chaotic and unhinged thing I've ever seen.

Although folks are cutting up on social media, Chadwick’s family isn’t tripping. The Black Panther star’s brother, Derrick Boseman, said he believes his brother would have been the first to congratulate Anthony Hopkins on his win for The Father.
“I’m sure [Anthony] would [wish him the best] if Chad won,” Derrick told TMZ.
Derrick said the Boseman Family felt every actor nominated was deserving of the award. Shedding some insight into how Chadwick viewed the awards show, he said his brother used to describe the annual awards show “as a campaign,” so it wasn’t his ultimate dream to take home an Oscar.
No surprise there.

FAB.
For the first time ever, the Oscars ceremony viewership fell down under 10 million. According to delayed fast national results just released by Nielsen (via Deadline), the 93rd Academy Awards were watched by a mere 9.85 million, with a dismal rating of 1.9 among the 18-49 demographic.
Damn.
