Black Excellence was celebrated at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards over the weekend, honoring all of our faves in culture and entertainment. The ceremony aired live on BET in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Hudson was among the night’s big winners, nabbing the Entertainer of the Year Award for her showstopping portrayal of legendary singer Aretha Franklin in the blockbuster hit, RESPECT. She beat out Regina King, Megan Thee Stallion, Tiffany Haddish and Lil Nas X.

During her acceptance speech, the Oscar & Grammy winner thanked the NAACP for continuing to inspire “little girls like me.” Aretha handpicked JHud to play her not long after she won an Oscar for Dreamgirls.

"I was just standing here thinking 'It was here – the NAACP Awards – where I watched so many legends and icons that inspired me," JHud said during her speech. "Now, I'm standing here holding an award like this. It's because of seeing the Arethas, the Patti LaBelles, the Halle Berrys, all these legends right here on this stand that inspired me."

"This is for Ms. Franklin's legacy," she continued.

Peep her acceptance speech below:
