”Martin” fans get excited! BET+ is set to host a “Martin” reunion special to celebrate the hit comedy show’s 30th anniversary. And the original cast - including leads Martin Lawrence & Tisha Campbell - will star in it. Deets inside…
It’s official! A “Martin” reunion is coming soon.
Three decades after the series debut, Martin Lawrence and the cast, including Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II will be joining forces as part of a BET+ reunion special, hosted by Affion Crockett. As you know, Thomas Mikal Ford died in 2016 at the age of 52, so they’ll likely pay tribute to him in a special way as taping will take place today (February 20th).
The special is set to air later this year.
“To be able to sit here 30 years later with this amazing cast that has had such an impact on pop culture is truly a blessing,” Martin Lawrence said. “I am always humbled that the fans still want more of the show and its characters. I am looking forward to the reunion special.”
It doesn’t end there. The special will also feature some “surprise guests,” which will likely include some pop-up appearances by celebs who made guest appearances on the show throughout the years, including Tracy Morgan, Kim Coles, Tommy Davidson, Chris Rock, Snoop Dogg, Billy Dee Williams, Mr. T, Jackie Chan and more.
”Martin” became a HIT series for FOX when it premiered in 1992. It aired for five seasons before wrapping up in 1997.
As they prepare for the reunion special, Tisha has been sharing some behind-the-scenes clips:
The “Martin” 30th anniversary special will include interviews with the cast, original directors, musical performances and behind-the-scenes commentary on the importance and impact of the show, according to Deadline.
“Martin is one of the most beloved sitcoms in our community, both because it is hugely entertaining and because it played a pivotal role in changing the narrative of Black voices in entertainment and in culture through the portrayal of young, ambitious Black leads and healthy Black relationships,” said Scott Mills, CEO of BET. “Decades later, that representation is still just as important, which is why we’re so excited to honor a series that put Black culture front and center on our platform that embraces Black culture every day.”
Fans are excited for the reunion - while also missing Tommy - Martin’s best friend on the show:
So happy we’re getting a “Martin” reunion. I’m really going to miss Tommy’s jokes, and how funny his laugh was. RIP Tommy. pic.twitter.com/WqruZnLrUz

Wow....so there's going to be a reunion for Martin.
And without Thomas Mikal Ford, who passed away in 2016.
I'm going into this reunion show as if Tommy couldn't make it...because he's at work.
RIP Tommy.— Jimmy the Vaccinated (@JayDukes) February 20, 2022
The reunion show will be executive produced by Stan Lathan (Sanaa Lathan’s father), written by Nile Evans and Bentley Kyle Evans, who also serves as a co-executive producer. Jesse Collins Entertainment’s Brittany Brazil is also a producer.
The special will also be executive produced by Martin Lawrence, his brother Robert Lawrence, Rae Proctor and Stacy Lyles through his company Run Tel Dat Entertainment, along with Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon of Jesse Collins Entertainment. Jeannae Rouzan-Clay has been tapped to be the showrunner.
Fans are curious if the cast will touch on sexual harassment lawsuit filed by Tisha, who played Gina Waters, in 1997.
"It was all a lot of bullsh*t,” Martin said about the lawsuit in GQ magazine back in 2020. “Just whoever's side it was, it was bullsh*t,” he continued.
The suit was settled out of court.
”We don't need to talk about something that just didn't happen. So I just decided to walk away from the show. I just decided to end it. People said that I got canceled, but that wasn't the case. I decided to just leave the show,” he explained.
Despite the suit, Martin said he still had love for Tisha.
“I love Tisha. I've seen her then and now, now and then, always with nothing but love. I have nothing but love for her, and I always have,” he shared.
In 2018, Martin, Tisha, Tichina reunited for a lunch date, which started the reboot rumors.
We’re totally here for it. All five seasons are currently streaming on BET+ to get you ready for the reunion special. Y’all ready?!
