"The Proud Family" is back…louder and prouder. However, fans aren’t necessarily feeling the revamped theme song and they’re calling for Solange or Chloe x Halle to do it over. Take a listen to the new version and tell us if you agree inside…
If you haven’t heard, “The Proud Family” is BACK! Louder and Prouder as ever twenty years later. Yes, we're that old.
The much anticipated arrival of “The Proud Family” revival premiered this week on Disney+ with the first two episodes of “The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.” The groundbreaking animated series follows 14-year-old Penny Proud (voiced by Kyla Pratt) and her family navigating life together with all its ups and downs.
The original executive producers Bruce W. Smith and Ralph Farquhar realized how impactful the series was when it premiered in 2001. It was one of TV’s first animated African-American families. So, the producers decided to modernize the series and bring it back for a younger generation where OG fans can enjoy the revival with their little ones - still teaching some of the same lessons that were taught back in the day.
The 2001 opening theme song was performed by Solange along with Destiny’s Child and became a staple. Take a stroll down memory lane below:
Two decades later, recording artist Joyce Write was tapped to put a modern spin on the series catchy theme song while also paying homage to the “timeless” original version that fans grew to love.
“The theme song is very similar to the original, [but] the production, the beat is different. I just want to put a little bit of my own twist to it, and pay my dues and respect to Destiny’s Child, [composer] Kurt [Farquhar], and everyone on the original,” Joyce told PAPER magazine.

While Joyce Write slayed the new version of the theme song, everyone isn’t feeling it. Some fans have expressed on social media that they would like Solange or even Chloe x Halle (who are signed to Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment) to re-do the theme track.

Why would they change the proud family theme song ? Bring Solange back

I do wish we could’ve gotten a Solange ft. Destiny Child remix to the new Proud Family, I personally think it would’ve been legendary, but the new one has a nice soothing vibe

I like the new Proud Family . The new theme song is alright but I would have like Chloe X Halle to do it. Also Oscar is still broke and annoying lol

The reboot gathered a healthy group of A-listers to feature on the upcoming revival, including Normani, Lizzo, Lil Nas X, Chance the Rapper, Leslie Odom Jr., Tiffany Haddish, Lena Waithe, Anthony Anderson, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Debbie Allen, EJ Johnson, James Pickens Jr., Courtney B. Vance, Jane Lynch, Marsai Martin, Jaden Smith, Glynn Turman, Lamorne Morris, Brenda Song, Tina Knowles, Eva Longoria, Holly Robinson Peete, Al Roker, Bretman Rock, Gabby Douglas, Laurie Hernandez, Dominique Dawes, and more.
That's more star power than we were expecting, but we're not mad. Producers are making sure the animated series comes back "louder and prouder." New episodes premiere every Wednesday on Disney+.
Have you watched the revival yet? If so, are you here for it?
