Folks are learning the HARD way that what you post on social media can cost you: BIG TIME!
Estée Lauder senior executive John Demsey was forced to leave the makeup company on Monday after sharing an insensitive meme that featured a racial slur and a reference to a Chingy concert. The meme said “My n***a Snuffy done got the ’rona at a Chingy concert,” which featured Sesame Street characters.
After posting and deleting, Demsey - who was making $10 million/year - apologized for “carelessly reposting a racist meme without reading it before hand.”
Now sir...
Peep his apology below:
Estée Lauder released a statement after the firing: “This decision is the result of his recent Instagram posts, which do not reflect the values of The Estée Lauder Companies, have caused widespread offense, are damaging to our efforts to drive inclusivity both inside and outside our walls, and do not reflect the judgment we expect of our leaders,” the statement said. “Our employees, and especially our senior leaders, are accountable to continue driving our progress and to respect the values of this company for the long term.”
Rapper Chingy started trending on social media, and once he found out why, he hopped on Instagram to respond. He said he wasn’t phased by the meme at all and said he just made a mistake. Peep the clip below:
