“Abbott Elementary” star/creator/producer Quinta Brunson is living her best life and can’t nobody tell her nothing! The Philly native is heavy on the promo trail - slaying magazines and linking up with Kelly Rowland on daytime TV - after her hit new ABC series was given the greenlight for Season 2.
Watch our good sis slay the magazine and TV streets inside…
2022 is Quinta Brunson’s year!
The Philadelphia native is the creator, the lead star, a writer and an executive producer of the hit new ABC series, “Abbott Elementary.” It’s one of TV’s biggest new sitcoms as the show is tied up with CBS' Ghosts for the highest-rated freshman sitcom in the 18-49 demographic. Everyone is loving the “mockumentary” style of the series, which serves up “The Office” vibes.
Needless to say, fans were itching to find out if the show would get renewed, and their wish was granted this week.
In true “Abbott Elementary” fashion, the Season 2 announcement was made via the show’s Twitter account as a memo from the desk of Principal Ava Coleman - one of the characters on the show. Check it out below:

Quinta - who stars as Janine Teagues - based the series on her mother’s career as a longtime education and even named it after her own sixth grade teacher. She's joined in the cast by Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Chris Perfetti, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
The fan-favorite sitcom premiered in December with only one episode. The second episode didn’t premiere until several weeks later. Eventually, the show began to gain popularity on social media, driving up streaming viewership. The show went on another mini hiatus recently, but the next episode is set to air on March 22nd.
Before “Abbott Elementary” returns, the show’s front lady has been making a splash on the promo trail.
On the magazine circuit, Quinta served up regal goddess goodness on the cover of ESSENCE magazine’s “Black Women In Hollywood” issue.
Next week, ESSENCE will honor Quinta, as well as Nia Long, Aunjanue Ellis, and Chanté Adams for their contributions to the Black cinematic universe during their “Black Women In Hollywood” event on Monday, March 28th at 7pm EST. It’s being hosted by British hottie Damson Idris.
”Hello hi I’m on the cover of @essence. What a dream come true,” she humbly captioned her cover and spread on Instagram. Swipe through her SUPER gorge pictorials below:
So fab.
On daytime TV…
The multi-hyphenate queen stopped by the TODAY show to chop it up with guest co-host Kelly Rowland and co-host Hoda Kotb to dish on the show and how the stories her mom shared with her as a kindergarten teacher inspired the show. By the way, her mother was her actual kindergarten teacher. Ha.
"One of her stories I used in the pilot actually, of another teacher punching a kid," she shared. “She has so many tidbits here and there that I kind of pull from. It's just stuck in my brain — everything that she's told me over the years and everything I've witnessed because I was with her so much at school."
At one point in life, Quinta considered being a teacher much to her mother’s delight, but she realized she wasn't built for that life.
"There was a point in time where I really considered it, but it didn't last long," she said. "It didn't go anywhere. My mom really wanted me to be one and I just knew it wasn't for me. I knew I didn't have the patience that it took ... that time."
