It’s an EGOT! Viola Davis has just earned the highly sought after EGOT status, and she's the third Black woman in history to do so. More inside…
When you talk about Viola Davis, don't forget to mention EGOT!
Viola Davis has just earned the highly sought after EGOT status, and she's the third Black woman in history to do so.
The bomb actress, who just turned 57, won her very first Grammy at the 65th Grammy Awards for her stunning performance as the narrator of the audiobook for her memoir "Finding Me." And sis was she ecstatic about it.
As she accepted the award, she exclaimed, "I just EGOT!" Yasss!
For those of you who don't know, "EGOT" stands for winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony award over the course of your career. It's a major deal, and only 18 people in history have achieved it. Viola is now part of this exclusive club, joining the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, John Legend, and Jennifer Hudson as the fourth Black person to reach EGOT status. She’s the third black woman to earn the coveted honor.

If you didn’t know, Viola already has an Oscar, two Tonys, and an Emmy under her belt. She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2017 for her role in "Fences" and made history as the first Black woman to win the lead drama actress award with her Emmy win for "How to Get Away with Murder" in 2015.
In accepting her historic Grammy, Viola dedicated the award to her 6-year-old self and said, "I wrote this book to honor her, to honor her life, her joy, her trauma, her everything." Aww.
