SOLO DOLO? Mara Brock Akil Is Taking HER Talents To FOX Entertainment After Inking Script Deal - No Mention Of Salim Akil

Mara Brock Akil just landed a new gig with FOX Entertainment and there's no mention of her (estranged?) husband Salim Akil joining forces with her on the new project. More inside...

Major congrats are in order for Mara Brock Akil.

The producer/writer/director just inked a network-direct script deal with FOX Entertainment. And we’re excited to see what she comes up with. She has already given us a few of our faves, including “Girlfriends,” “The Game,” “Being Mary Jane,” and “Black Lightning,” which is currently airing on The CW and has been renewed for Season 4.

Under the deal, Mara will develop and write a scripted series project that will be produced by FOX Entertainment.

“Mara is a truly gifted writer, with a strong point of view. From ‘Girlfriends’ to ‘The Game’ to ‘Being Mary Jane,’ she’s a proven hitmaker with the unique ability to write both comedy and drama. Since the formation of FOX Entertainment, we’ve said we want to be in business with the best and the brightest, and no one exemplifies that more than Mara Brock Akil,” said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment, FOX Entertainment

This is Mara’s first new gig since coming off an overall deal with Warner Bros. TV that produced her two series – The CW’s “Black Lightning” and OWN’s “Love Is_.” She collaborated with her husband, Salim Akil, on both of those series. She also worked with him on “The Game,” “Being Mary Jane,” and Sparkle.

There’s no mention of Salim Akil joining forces with her for the FOX Entertainment deal. However, Mara & Salim are very much still together even after the cheating scandal broke where a woman accused Salim of physical and sexual abuse. The allegations ultimately led to “Love Is_” being canceled on OWN.

On Christmas, the “Girlfriends” creator posted a photo with her hubby – the first flick of them together since the allegations were made. And her caption heavily hinted they’re still together:

“MR and MRS CLAUS// What a beautiful way to end this year— shopping for those we love with grateful hearts together!,” she wrote. They have two children together.

In November 2018, actress Amber Dixon Brenner sued the famed producer/director/screenwriter for domestic violence, sexual abuse and breach of contract after filing the paperwork in the Los Angeles Superior Court. She accused Akil of repeated “non-consensual assault and battery.” She also made claims that she and Salim had been lovers for over a decade up until 2017. He has denied all of the allegations made against him.

If she's happy, that's all that matters. Congrats!
