An Ava DuVernay-directed documentary about Nipsey Hussle may be coming to Netflix. Deadline reported the streaming service won the bidding war, however, Nipsey's company, Marathon Films, claims no deal has been reached just yet. More inside...

A documentary about late rapper/activist Nipsey Hussle is coming soon.

According to Deadline, directress Ava DuVernay has been set to direct a feature-length documentary about the Grammy Award winning rapper, following a bidding war reportedly won by Netflix. It’s reported Ava will direct and co-produce the film.

Here’s what Deadline reported about the documentary:

A co-production between DuVernay’s ARRAY banner and Hussle’s Marathon Films, the project was secured by Netflix after an intense bidding war hosted recently by CAA for its When They See Us client. The Reed Hastings-led streamer, home of DuVernay’s acclaimed 2016 documentary 13th, picked up the Nipsey film for high eight figures to beat out some deep-pocketed contenders, I hear.

We’re def here for it. However, Nipsey’s company, Marathon Films, took to Instagram following the report to reveal no deal has been made… yet. The company says they’re still currently in negotiations and that they will not be rushing the project for monetary gain.

Check it:

“Nipsey’s company Marathon Films, will present his feature film documentary executive produced by RocNation and his two children, Emani and Kross Asghedom," the statement reads. "No final deal has been inked. We are currently in negotiations with Netflix for this project with Ava DuVernay, and her company ARRAY to co-produce. This documentary is very important to the family and will not be fast tracked by monetary gain and/or commercial interest."

Well, that's good to know.

The 33-year-old rapper was fatally shot outside of his clothing store, The Marathon Clothing Store, on March 31, 2019 in Los Angeles. Nispey was reportedly gunned down by his "homie" Eric Holder. He was charged with his murder by a grand jury last April, to which he has pleaded guilty and currently awaits trial.
