Gayle King Calls Out CBS For Editing ‘Wide-Ranging’ Interview About Kobe Bryant + Snoop Dogg & Boosie SLAM Gayle Over Controversial Questions

Gayle King is responding to the backlash she has received over questions she asked Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant’s rape allegations. She blames CBS for cutting up the interview without context. Also, rappers Snoop Dogg & Boosie are taking her to task, but are they going too far? More inside…

The Internet was BIG mad at Gayle King yesterday after a clip from an interview she did with former WNBA star Lisa Leslie was released. In the clip, the “CBS This Morning” co-anchor asked Lisa if her friend Kobe Bryant’s legacy was “complicated” due to the 2003 sexual assault charge that was later dismissed.

Let’s just say folks were NOT here for it and ripped Gayle to shreds on social media - including rappers Snoop Dogg and Boosie.

Now listen, folks have every right to condemn what they think is problematic.  We posed the question in our previous post about whether she was simply doing her job as a journalist or if she overreached.  Regardless of the answer, disrespecting a woman and calling her out her name in return for what you believe was disrespectful of her, isn't applaudable either.

Oprah’s bestie has been reading the comments regarding her interview and has decided to respond. In a video posted to her Twitter account, the longtime journalist called out her network – CBS – for chopping up the interview and posting the most “salacious part” without context. After seeing the clip, Gayle said she was “angry” that CBS only posted that clip from a very “wide ranging interview” with the WNBA star.

"If I had only seen the clip that you saw, I would be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I am embarrassed, and I am very angry. Unbeknownst to me, my network put up a clip from a very wide-ranging interview, totally taken out of context and when you see it that way, it's very jarring," she explained.

After finishing the sitdown with Lisa, she said she felt good about the interview. She wishes everyone could have seen the entire conversation.

"I felt really good about the interview. So for the network to take the most salacious part, when taken out of context, and put it up online for people who didn't see the whole interview is very upsetting to me," she explained. "There will be a very intense discussion about that."

When the backlash first started, she said she was advised to not speak on it, but that wasn’t “good enough” for her.

"I wanted to get Lisa's take on it as a friend who knew him well. What she thought, where that would stand," she said. "It was very powerful when she looked me in the eye, as a member of the media, to say it's time for the media to leave that alone and back off. During the course of the interview, I asked follow-up questions because I wanted to make sure her position and perspective were very clear."

She also revealed she spoke with Lisa Wednesday night (Feb. 5th) and "believes (she) was OK with the interview.

Gayle reflected on the times she personally met with Kobe and dubbed him a “warm” and “kind” man and said she’s still mourning the lost as well. As you know, Kobe Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash that also claimed the lives of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant and 7 other victims on January 26th.

"I too am mourning his loss just like everybody else. I still am shocked by it. It's tragic and untimely and the last thing I would want to do is disparage him at this particular time," she said.
