Nia Long is gearing up to star and executive produce a movie based on a true story titled, Dreams of the Moon. Also, the legendary actress recently announced a new scholarship to honor the legacy of her father, Doughtry Long. Everything inside…

Nia Long is booked and busy!

The “NCIS: Los Angeles” star has several projects coming down the pipeline. For her newest project, the 49-year-old actress is set to star in a drama titled, Dreams of the Moon, which is based on a true story. She’ll also be wearing her executive producer hat for the upcoming film.

Alfons Adetuyi will reportedly direct the film and actress Eden Duncan-Smith (who starred in Netflix’s Roxanne Roxanne with Nia and See You Yesterday) will also star.

Deadline has the synopsis and the producer credits:

Set in 1971 against the backdrop of the secret NASA Apollo 16 training mission, the indie tells the story of an African-American teenage girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut in her small mining town.

Denis Foon penned the screenplay. Inner City Films and Spier Films are producing the pic, which is slated to begin shooting this April in South Africa. This will mark the second collaboration between the two companies, which previously teamed on romantic comedy Love Jacked, starring Amber Stevens West, Shamier Anderson, Mike Epps, and David Keith. It’s currently available to stream on Netflix.

Adetuyi and Michael Auret are the producers while Cora Tonno, Gary Shapiro, and Lisa di Michele are executive producers alongside Long.

This movie is likely a passion project of Nia’s especially since her father, Doughtry “Doc” Long, was a teacher in New Jersey. Sadly, Nia’s father passed recently:

To honor her father's legacy, Nia and her sister, Djamila McRae, traveled to Trenton Central High - their dad's alma mater that he also taught at - to announce the establishment of the Doughtry "Doc" Long Scholarship for deserving students:

Trenton Central High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from Trenton, New Jersey.

After the announcement, they snapped flicks with the students and staff:

Nice! We love when our YBF celebs give back. Prayers up for Nia and her family after the lost of their loved one.

Also, Nia Long is set to star in the Apple TV+ film, The Banker, and she recently wrapped production on Fatal Affair for Netflix, another flick she's starring in and producing. Get it!
