Houston Rodeo - Headlined By Lizzo - Cancelled Due To Coronavirus, But Joel Osteen Isn’t (Totally) Cancelling His Megachurch Service

The Coronavirus has caused a rodeo in Houston headlined by Lizzo to get canceled. However, Pastor Joel Osteen isn’t canceling his church service. Deets inside…

Lizzo will NOT be hitting the stage in Houston and it's NOT her fault.

The "Truth Hurts" singer was set to hit the stage in her old stomping grounds of Houston, but the event was canceled due to Coronavirus concerns.

A health emergency has been declared in Houston following the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The event has canceled the remainder of its 2020 events, which included concerts headlined by Lizzo, Gwen Stefani and more. According to local news site Click 2 Houston, Harris County has declared a health emergency.

According to officials, a Coronavirus patient attended a BBQ on Feb. 28th at the popular Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, however, it's unclear if he had symptoms at the time.

There are few details about the Houston patient, but here’s what we know. He’s reportedly a man in his 40s who lives in Montgomery County. Right now, epidemiologists are working to retrace his steps and determine whether the patient had symptoms when attending the event. Again, it’s unclear if he had symptoms right now.

If he had contracted the virus at that time, he was carrying the virus amongst 73,433 people who also attended the “World Championship Barb-B-Que Contest,” on Friday, Feb. 28th. According to the news station, the total attendance numbers for that day were 77,632.

Now, folks are quarantined:

Officials said people who came into close contact with the Montgomery County patient and live in Montgomery County have been placed in a 14-day quarantine. People who live outside Montgomery County who came into contact with the patient are being forwarded to their local health departments for guidance, officials said.

The Rodeo was scheduled to run until March 22.

Also in Houston....

The Word will go forth.

Pastor Joel Osteen did finally cancel face-to-face church service (for his 50,000+) megachurch, however, he'll still deliver a word before his congregation. Lakewood Church tweeted it will be holding this weekend's worship services online due to the growing Coronavirus concerns citywide.

At first, they weren't going to cancel Sunday's services following the cancellation of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo earlier this week, but they had a change of heart.

As of now, there are 14 confirmed Coronavirus cases in the Houston area and 25 total in the state of Texas.

EXTRAS:
