Plans For National Emergency Are (Finally) Happening: White House Exposed To Coronavirus, Trumps Have Not Been Tested + Miami Mayor Tests Positive After Meeting With Brazilian Govn’t Aide

Trump plans to declare a national emergency in response to Coronavirus today. Meanwhile, Trump & Vice President Mike Pence will not be tested for the Coronavirus after coming into contact with a Brazilian official who tested positive for the virus. Also, Miami mayor Francis Suarez has tested positive after attending an event with a Brazilian government aide, who has also tested positive. Everything inside…

President Trump is scheduled to speak at 3pm EST at the White House today. "Topic: CoronaVirus!" he tweeted.

He’ll likely make an emergency declaration due to the virus, which would free up tens of billions of federal dollars to help fight the pandemic (that he originally downplayed), sources told CNN.  Many states and cities have already declared states of emergency in their jurisdictions.

Despite coming into contact with someone who eventually tested positive for the Coronavirus, Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will NOT be tested for the virus. According to reports, Trump came into contact with a Brazilian official who tested positive for the the virus days after participating in meetings with the president in Florida.  There is even picture proof that he shook hands with and took pictures close to them.

Of course, the White House is downplaying Trump’s interaction with the Brazilian aide. Since Trump nor Pence are showing symptoms, they aren't being tested even though they shared the same space with someone who did test positive for the virus.

White House press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement: “Both the president and vice president had almost no interactions with the individual who tested positive and do not require being tested at this time. There is currently no indication to test patients without symptoms, and only people with prolonged close exposure to confirmed positive cases should self-quarantine,” Ms. Grisham said. “Exposures from the case are being assessed, which will dictate next steps.”

Hmph.

The NY Times reports:

Fabio Wajngarten, a top communications aide to President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, tested positive days after accompanying him to Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and posing for a photo with the president and Vice President Mike Pence. In the photo, which he posted on social media, Mr. Wajngarten is standing shoulder to shoulder with Mr. Trump, who is clutching a brown “Make Brazil Great Again” baseball cap.

A video from the event also showed Mr. Wajngarten standing directly behind Mr. Trump and Mr. Bolsonaro as they spoke to a crowd.

After his meeting with the Brazilian delegation, Mr. Trump hosted a dinner for Mr. Bolsonaro and his aides. But Mr. Pence did not stay for the dinner, an aide said, and had not received any guidance from his physician that he needed to be tested or quarantined.

This is SO reckless. Why not just take the test to be on the safe side?

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez has tested positive for the virus after attending an event with a Brazilian government aide, who has also tested positive.

“It is confirmed that I have the Coronavirus,” Suarez said. “I did test positive for it," he said in an interview with the Miami Herald.

He said he feels OK, however, he's more concerned about people he may have come into contact with over the last few days.

“I’m concerned for people who have had some measure of contact with me,” he said. “If we did not shake hands or you did not come into contact with me if I coughed or sneezed, there is no action you need to take whatsoever,” he said. “If we did, however, touch or shake hands, or if I sneezed or coughed near you since Monday, it is recommended that you self-isolate for 14 days, but you do not need to get tested. After speaking with medical personnel, I will continue to follow Department of Health protocol and remain isolated while I lead our government remotely.”

Peep the clip above.

Not only that, a top Australian official also tested positive just days after meeting with U.S. Attorney General William P. Barr in Washington.

The World Health Organization issued a warning, saying that Europe “has now become the epicenter" of the pandemic, months after Asian cities were the original epicenter but they ave now curbed the number of cases to under 5.

World Health Organization Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, "Europe has now become the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic, with more reported cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined, apart from China."

He urged other countries on Friday to look toward the actions of "China, South Korea, Singapore and others," which, he said, "clearly demonstrates that aggressive testing and contact tracing, combined with social-distancing measures and community mobilization, can prevent COVID-19 infections and save lives."

Earlier today, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus held a media briefing about the latest Coronavirus facts. Check it below:

You'll recall, Trump placed travel restrictions on travel from much of Europe to the United States in an attempt to stem the spread of the Coronavirus

Whistleblowers are sounding off about how the White House KNEW the Coronavirus would be a "major threat," but did nothing about it. Dan Diamond, a Politico reporter who investigates health policy and politics, has been putting the WH on blast via Twitter and the Fresh Air podcast.  And we gotta say, the information about how the Administration reportedly ignored this situation that was brought to their attention onths ago - all in the name of selfish politics - is infuriating. Peep the tweets below:

By the way, Italy saw 250 more fatalities from the Coronavirus in just 24 hours, according to the Italian Civil Protection Authorities. Also, Louisiana's Democratic primary - which was scheduled April 4th - has now been pushed back to June 20th.
