A 16-year-old boy was fatally shot by his 42-year-old stepfather after an argument about the “stay at home” order. The boy – De’onte Roberts – and the stepfather – Bernie Hargrove - got into an argument earlier in the day about the shelter-in-place order. De’onte wanted to leave the house, but his mother and stepfather wanted him to remain inside due to concerns about the Coronavirus.
De’onte went against their wishes and left the southwest Atlanta home. Hours later, he returned. According to reports, Bernie shot De’onte several times in the chest after the teen kicked in the front door of the home and punched him in the face.
“The victim’s mother told detectives that that there had been a dispute earlier in the day when the 16-year-old refused his parents orders to remain in the home and comply with recent shelter in place directives. Later, the victim returned to the home and kicked in the door to the house where a physical fight began between the suspect and the victim. During that altercation the victim was shot," police said.
The 16-year-old victim was and taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he died. The victim’s mother and younger siblings were in the home during the shooting.
Bernie Hargrove was arrested on a charge of felony murder after the shooting at the home.

So sad. We're all feeling the effects of being isolated. We have to remember to remain as calm as possible, at least not allowing ones self to reach the point of murder, no matter how frustrated we are.
