The self-proclaimed “Real Housewives of Atlanta” HBIC is calling quits…foreal this time. NeNe Leakes announced she will not be returning for Season 13, but does she have something new coming down the pipeline? Find out inside…
All good things must come to an end – sometimes to make space for something greater.
Earlier this year, there was drama after Wendy Williams announced on her daytime talk show that NeNe Leakes was leaving “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” It snowballed into a whole scandal after NeNe revealed she felt betrayed her "friend" would reveal what she said to her in private via text message.
Well now, it’s official. The self-proclaimed “RHOA” HBIC will not be returning for Season 13.
"There's been a lot of emotions on both sides," NeNe said in a video posted on her YouTube account. "It's been hard and I have made a hard, difficult decision to not be part of Real Housewives of Atlanta season 13."
The reality star – who is one of the show’s original cast mates - said “it wasn't an easy decision” for her to make, but it was time.
"I'm just so happy that I can say that I was part of a genre that opened up a door for Black ensemble reality shows," she said before offering up her gratitude. "I want to thank everybody that has looked up to me over the years. ...I want to thank Bravo for all the memories. ...Thank you to the cast for all of the memories."
Peep her message below:
Did you catch what she said about seeing her fans “REAL soon” at the end? Sounds like she has something up her sleeve. Talk show, perhaps? Time will tell.
It seems NeNe’s departure was amicable as BRAVO released a statement saying she’s always welcomed to come back.
"We wish NeNe all the best in her future endeavors and thank her for sharing her journey for over a decade with the fans of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She’s been instrumental since the start and will truly be missed, and maybe one day she’ll hold the peach again," a spokesperson for the network said.
It’s been speculated NeNe was leaving the show before the 13th season. Over the summer there were rumors that she had been fired. However, NeNe said she and the network were still negotiating her contract.
This isn’t the first time NeNe announced she was leaving the show. She chose not to film Season 9 altogether, but copped a peach for Season 10. Similar to this announcement, she told her fans via social media.
"This is so hard for me to type! I cry as I do so! I am so Grateful for all the love and laughs! Thank you so much to everyone that has watched and supported me over the years on this amazing platform! With lots of thoughts and prayer I've decided to step out on faith and not fear #nomoRHOA4me,” she wrote at the time.
After NeNe stormed off the “RHOA” Season 12 digital reunion it was up in the air whether she would be back. And now, we know she will not be on the next season…well, for now.
Based on her closing comments in her video, it sounds like we’ll be seeing her somewhere in the media world. So, we’ll just have to wait and see.
