Regina King’s ‘One Night In Miami’ Trailer Released After Closing Out Hamptons Film Festival BIG + Regina, Zazie, & Lakeith Join Idris For A Netflix Western

Earlier this year, Regina King kicked off production in New Orleans for her feature film directorial debut. And we have been patiently waiting for new info about the film to come out.

The Oscar winning actress will be calling the shots for her upcoming film, One Night in Miami, which she dubbed a “love letter to black manhood.”

One Night in Miami is a fictional account of one incredible imagined night where Black icons Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown gathered to discuss their roles in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 60s.

The Golden Globe winner will be directing and handful of hotties, including Kingsley Ben-Adir ("The OA") who’ll play civil rights activist Malcolm X, Eli Goree ("Riverdale") who’ll star as famous boxer/activist Cassius Clay right before he became Muhammad Ali, Aldis Hodge (Straight Outta Compton) as famed football player/activist Jim Brown, and Grammy/Tony Award winner Leslie Odom Jr. (Harriet) playing iconic singer Sam Cooke.

Kemp Powers wrote the film and its based off of his 2013 stage play, “One Night in Miami.”

One Night in Miami is set to close out the 28th edition of the Hamptons International Film Festival, which is taking place virtually and with drive-in screens.

“We have long admired the work of Regina King — throughout the years she has given phenomenal and groundbreaking performances, and we look forward to being able to now spotlight her craft and skill behind the camera with her directorial debut,” said HIFF artistic director David Nugent.

The film – which became the breakout film at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month – could put Regina in the history books…again! Now, there’s OSCAR buzz!

One Night in Miami could be Amazon Studios in the 2021 Academy Awards mix. If Regina nabs a directing nomination, she’d be the FIRST Black woman and the sixth woman nominee in the category in 92 years. The film’s lead stars - Aldis, Leslie, Kingsley or Eli – could also nab nominations. Nice!

In other film news...

An all-black Western is coming to Netflix! British hottie Idris Elba is ready to saddle up as the lead star in the upcoming Western titled, The Harder They Fall, and Jay-Z is producing it.

Now, the cast is rounding out.

EMMY winner Regina King, Zazie Beetz, Lakeith Stanfield, and Delroy Lindo have signed on to star in the western film, joining Idris and Jonathan Majors. Also, Danielle Deadwyler, Edi Gathegi and RJ Cyler will co-star.

Here’s a synopsis of the film: Outlaw Nat Love (Majors), who, upon discovering that the man (Elba) who killed his parents two decades previously is being released from prison, reunites with his gang to track his enemy down and seek his revenge.

Jeymes Samuel, who’s known as singer-songwriter The Bullitts, will make his directorial debut on the project. Jeymes will also be producing the project alongside Hov, film producer/Will Smith's long-time business partner James Lassiter and Lawrence Bender. Jeymes collaborated with Boaz Yakin for the film’s script.

Jay-Z and Jeymes will collaborate to write and produce original music for the film. They previously collaborated on The Great Gatsby soundtrack. Don't be surprised if you see Idris on the soundtrack since he raps. Ha!
