Family and friends are mourning the death of a loved one after he was reportedly shot and killed by a Texas police officer while trying to break up a domestic violence situation.

Jonathan Price – a former Hardin-Simmons University football player - was reportedly tasered, shot and killed by a Wolfe City, TX police officer Saturday, October 3rd. According to people close to Jonathan, the 31-year-old - a city employee - tried to intervene in a domestic violence situation after he saw a man physically assaulting a woman at a Kwik Check gas station. A couple got into an argument inside of the convenience store and he tried to step in the middle of it to end it.

The fight continued outside where the unidentified man assaulted Jonathan. The police were called and when they pulled up on the scene, Jonathan reportedly put his hands up, but was tasered and then shot to death. According to civil rights lawyer Lee Merritt, after he was tasered his body convulsed from the electrical current, which they “perceived a threat” and shot him to death.

No video footage of the incident has been released…yet. Let’s hope the officers didn’t destroy the evidence.

Jonathan was a sports coach, a motivational speaker, trainer, professional athlete and community advocate. He didn’t deserve to die this way.

Months before his death - amid the George Floyd protests - Jonathan shared a post on Facebook, praising the police. In the post, he also expressed his love for the white family that helped raised him, who was responsible for his "obsession of white women," and said he had never experienced racism from police.

Hopefully, the people he held in such high regard will go to bat for his murder. The group of people he was defending has a member who took his life for apparently no reason.

The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on leave pending the results of the investigation, according to Wolfe County officials:

“He had a good heart. He always tried to help others,” Jonathan's mother, Marcella Louis, said. “They took my son from me. They took my baby.”

While most people agree he shouldn't have died at the hands of police, people are pointing out how it doesn't matter WHO YOU ARE when you're black.
