We know. Our inner 2000s self is UPSET! We had our Baby Phat coats, Apple Bottom jeans and jersey dresses READY for last night, only to be disappointed.
Right before Ashanti and Keyshia Cole’s highly anticipated VERZUZ Battle, Ashanti hopped on social media to reveal she tested positive for COVID-19.
”Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m ok and not in any pain. I’m actually down to do the Verzuz from my house…we’re trying to figure it all out!!!,” Ashanti wrote in an Instagram post.
The official VERZUZ IG account also shared the news, revealing the battle would be rescheduled for the second Saturday in January:
"Unfortunately, we have to postpone tonight’s @Ashanti vs @KeyshiaCole #VERZUZ. Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19 beforehand, and we cannot put anyone at risk in the process. First time this has struck us so close to showtime. We apologize to our incredible audience! Get well soon, Ashanti . Wear a mask, stay inside, and take COVID-19 seriously"
Shanti told her fans that she's not in any pain and that she was working with "Verzuz" and Apple Music to see if it would be possible for her to continue the battle virtually from home.
However, Keyshia wasn't with that.
Ashanti & Keyshia hopped on IG Live for the fans. Keyshia said she didn't want Ashanti to do the battle from a separate location, revealing she wanted to hug and love on 'Shanti and give her the flowers she deserves while she's still here. Keyshia wanted the full experience. Plus, health comes first. Check it:

Disgruntled fans have been going in on Ashanti since she has been out traveling in these streets and acting as if she's obtuse as to how she caught the Coronavirus. Days ago, she was living it up in Africa, so fans have been scolding her for doing the most during the pandemic. She said in the Live above that she caught it from a family member whom she hugged upon returning. Neither were aware that person had Covid until recently. None of the people on the trip with Ashanti tested positive.
It's all good. Just keep your early 2000s outfits ready. It's going down January 9th!
