In extremely sad news, former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson is mourning the death of his firstborn.
The ex-NFLer-turned-analyst shared the news of his 25-year-old daughter, Maia, passing in an Instagram post. The 48-year-old posted a touching tribute to his daughter explaining she passed away. Maia was one of two children the former football player shared with ex-wife Shikiri Hightower.
The Super Bowl – who’s now an analyst on ESPN’s “NFL Live” - winning wide receiver said he and his family are “heartbroken and devastated” over her passing.
“It is with incredible sadness that I have to share the news about the passing of my beautiful Daughter Maia,” he wrote in an IG post.
”Maia, as my first born child, has been the joy of my, and her Mother Shikiri’s, life. She came into our lives just as we were both coming of age as adults and has been a constant beloved presence for both of us. We are heartbroken and devastated by her loss. Shikiri, Maia’s siblings, our family and me appreciate your thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. We also all appreciate your support and respect for our privacy as we move forward. Thank you all, God Bless,” he wrote.
So sad. We can’t even imagine what Keyshawn or Shikiri are going through.
Maia - who celebrated a birthday back in December - leaves behind several siblings, including brother Keyshawn Johnson Jr., and the three children Keyshawn shares with his current wife Jennifer Conrad, London, Vance, and Shyla (born last year). Shikiri also has another daughter with her current husband.
Keyshawn Jr. posted a tribute to his big sister on his Instagram:
”Yesterday, I lost the one person in my life that is full blood. I lost my big sister Maia,” he wrote. “Maia was undoubtedly my biggest role model growing up. I wanted to be nothing but a clone of her. I always thought she was the coolest person, had the coolest clothes, listened to the best music. I dont know what I’m going to do without you. I just wish we were as close as we used to be. I’m sorry for that and I love you so much. I will see you soon.”
Maia’s cause of death has not been revealed.
Shikiri has been posting pictures of her daughter on her lifestyle brand’s IG Stories:
