BLITZ! A Russell Wilson Seahawks Trade Seems Promising + Cam Newton Hints At Possible Retirement?

Two of the NFL’s top quarterbacks are making headlines. And it looks like Ciara & Russell Wilson might be moving out of Seattle pretty soon. Also, Panthers QB Cam Newton seemingly hinted at retirement. Find out what he said and more inside…

The 2021 NFL season is almost over with just two games left in the regular season. And that’s usually around the time when trade talk starts. This year, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson - who has been leading the team since 2012 - is possibly on the chopping block.

This season was the Seahawks’ first losing season since 2011. The Seahawks will enter Week 16 at 5-9. This will be the second time in Russell’s career where he missed the playoffs.

Word on the sports curb is that Russell could be involved in a “blockbuster trade” this offseason. According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, a contract extension between Russ and the Seahawks is unlikely. The 33-year-old quarterback has two years left on his current deal. In 2019, he signed a a four year, $140M contract extension that included a $65 million signing bonus and $107M of total guarantees, for an average annual salary of $35M. The contract made him the highest paid player in the NFL.

“The prospect of a blockbuster trade remains very real, given the issues between the sides and sources said there could also be significant changes coming to the Seattle organization as well, with the team at a crossroads,” says La Canfora.

“Sources said ownership has not been pleased with the results of the past few seasons. While coach Pete Carroll, 70, who has final say on all football matters, has long made it clear the idea of a rebuild without Wilson holds no appeal to him, the team has few other significant trade chips that could kickstart the type of rebuild that others in the organization believe might be in order.”

The notion that Russell Wilson will be traded “remains very real.” There are several teams that would be interested in having Russ on their team.

Russell does have a no-trade clause in his contract, and he may be waiving said clause in order to move teams, if he so chooses.  Bleacher Report shared:

Wilson was the subject of trade talks last offseason amid a disagreement with coach Pete Carroll on offensive scheming and the team's struggles on the offensive line. Agent Mark Rodgers told Jeremy Fowler and Brady Henderson of ESPN in February that Wilson would waive his no-trade clause for deals to the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, Las Vegas Raiders or Chicago Bears.

Reporter Jordan Schultz updated the list of potential suitors earlier this month, which still includes the Saints but now features the New York Giants and Denver Broncos.

It’s possible the Seahawks could part ways with Russell Wilson while his value is still high, but we will just have to wait and see.

In other QB news…

Cam Newton…retiring?! Possibly.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback - who made his return to the team last month - reached a new low when the Panthers suffered a 32-6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday. Cam only passed for only 61 yards and ended up getting benched during the game for Sam Darnold late in the third quarter.

During his post-game interview, Cam addressed the fact he may have played his last game with the Panthers at home.

“Football has been good to me, I was able to walk away unscathed,” he said in the clip above.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m retiring, but I’ve had some great memories,” he continued. “As you think about, as you move forward, it takes more than one guy, it takes more than one talent, it take more than a couple guys.”

The former MVP expressed uncertainty about his future, wondering if he’s still “good enough.”

”I don't know what the future holds, but I'm so let down because the city of Charlotte has been good to me...You feel empty, like damn, are you good enough?"

Since his return to the Panthers, for a second stint, the team has lost five straight games. However, in three of the last fours games, Coach Rhule flip flopped between QBs.

Is he done done, though?

Newton on whether this being his last go-round: "Nah, I don't feel like that."

Peep the clip above.

Cam spent 9 seasons of his career with the Panthers, won an MVP and made a visit to the Super Bowl. The football dad signed a one-year deal, worth up to $10 million for the remainder of the 2021 season. SHEESH! The deal includes $4.5 million in fully guaranteed money with a $1.5 million roster bonus. For comparison, Cam signed a one-year deal with the Patriots worth up to $7.5 million, but no guaranteed money.
