It's here! The Will Smith-backed "Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" remix, "BEL-AIR", just got its first official trailer. The main elements are the same, but this re-imagining is a bit darker & a bit more dramatic than the original iconic series. And it works. Get the first look inside.
You know the Banks family, but not like this. A 2022 reimagining of Philly swag-king Will who leaves the violence behind to take his basketball talents and charm to a deluxe mansion in the Hills fits right in with the modern tv landscape. Think "All-American" meets "Beverly Hills 90210" meets "Blood & Water". Yes, please!
Executive produced by the original Fresh Prince, Will Smith, and inspired by Morgan Cooper’s viral trailer that reimagined the iconic, culture-defining ‘90s sitcom, "BEL-AIR" is officially here, and it hits the Peacock streaming service on Super Bowl Sunday (February 13, 2022). The first three one-hour episodes will drop at launch and new one-hour episodes will be released weekly.
Here's the official synopsis:
Set in modern-day America, Peacock’s new one-hour drama series Bel-Air reimagines the beloved sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air through a new, dramatic take on Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air. As these two worlds collide, Will reckons with the power of second chances while navigating the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.
Geoffrey (who's now a House Manager with a West Indian background, played by Jimmy Akingbola), Carlton (Olly Sholotan), Jazz (Jordan L. Jones), Hillary (Akira Akbar), Uncle Phil (who will seemingly be incorporating his black fraternity life into the storyline, played by Adrian Holmes), Ashley (Coco Jones) and Aunt Viv (Cassandra Freeman) are all in place. And Will is still Will (played by West Philly native Jabari Banks), but a rising high school basketball star who goes to Bel-Air for a better education, and to escape the gun violence and streets he got caught up in back in Philly.
We're here for it all. Will you be watching?!
