The 2022 Golden Globes Awards weren’t as eventful and fun as it normally is due to rising COVID-19 cases. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to announce this year’s winners during an untelevised presentation to recognize the best in film and television of the year.
Amid diversity concerns, this year the Golden Globes made history, taking a step towards becoming more inclusive.
Actress Michaela Jaé "Mj" Rodriguez won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role as house mother and nurse Blanca on the FX series, “POSE.” She makes history as the first transgender performer to ever win a Golden Globe. It’s also the first Golden Globe win for “POSE.” Sweet!
MJ was up against Uzo Aruba (“In Treatment”), Jennifer Aniston (“The Morning Show”), Christine Baranski (“The Good Fight”), Elisabeth Moss (“The Handmaid's Tale”).
"OMG OMGGG!!!! @goldenglobes Wow! You talking about sickening birthday present! Thank you!,” she wrote on Instagram.
”This is the door that is going to Open the door for many more young talented individuals," she continued. "They will see that it is more than possible. They will see that a young Black Latina girl from Newark New Jersey who had a dream, to change the minds others would WITH LOVE. LOVE WINS."
”To my young LGBTQAI babies WE ARE HERE the door is now open now reach the stars!!!!!,” she added. “To the nominees we are Queens. I’m so happy to share space with you! Each and every last one of you women are phenomenal.”
The 31-year-old actress also shared her excitement on IG Live:

Last year, MJ made history when she became the first trans woman to be nominated in a leading actress role at the 2021 EMMY awards. Although she didn’t win, the nomination was a big feat.
