George Floyd’s 4-Year-Old Great-Niece SHOT In ‘Targeted Attack' While Sleeping, Family Says They Know Who Did It

This is heartbreaking. George Floyd’s 4-year-old great-niece, Arianna Delane, was reportedly shot while sleeping in her bed after a gunman opened fire on a Houston home. The family believes it was a “targeted attack” and they claim to know who did it.

Tragedy strikes the family of George Floyd yet again - as if they haven’t all gone through enough.

4-year-old Arianna Delane was shot while sleeping in her bed on New Year’s after a gunman opened fire on her southwest Houston home. The young girl was identified as the great-niece of George Floyd, who was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin (who is currently in prison) in 2020.

Thankfully, Arianna is expected to survive after ongoing surgery over the weekend. The bullets punctured her lung and liver, leaving her with three broken ribs. Poor baby. She’s currently in stable condition.

The family believes the shooting was a “targeted attack” and claim they know who did it, but did not comment publicly on a possible motive.

Just hours after ringing in 2022, gunshots were fired into the Houston home second floor around 3AM Saturday (Jan. 1st). There were four adults and two children - all asleep - at the time of the shooting.

”My daughter jumped up and said, 'Daddy, I been hit,'' Arianna’s father, Derrick Delane, told ABC 13. “I was shocked until I seen the blood and I realized my four-year-old daughter was really hit. She didn't know what was going on. She was asleep,” he recalled.

The girl’s mother ended up driving her to the hospital. According to the girl’s father, the police didn’t arrive to their home until 7AM, more than four hours after the time of the shooting!

"I am aware and have concerns regarding the delayed response time in this incident and have initiated an Internal Affairs investigation. I ask the city continue to pray for the child's full recovery and assist in providing information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect or suspects responsible," Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said in a statement.

Houston’s police chief launched an Internal Affairs investigation into the department's response time to the shooting.

At the time of this post, Houston police have no suspect description or motive in the shooting, so they’re asking to community to help them find out who did this to this little girl.

”Why would my house get shot up?,” Arianna’s father asked. “My daughter don't know. I can't explain that to her. As the father, you're supposed to protect the kids. She's healing very fast. The last time I checked on her she was breathing on her own. She was doing really great,” he said about her recovery.

The 4-year-old is related to George through her grandmother, LaTonya, who is George’s sister. During social unrest following his murder, the family took Arianna to several Black Lives Matter protests.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to more than 20 years in prison for murdering George Floyd after he held his knee on George’s neck for nearly 10 minutes in May 2020. He was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd's death. Cops arrested George for allegedly attempting to use a counterfeit $20 bill to purchase cigarettes.

Three other former Minneapolis officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane, and J Alexander Kueng, were fired from the police department because they did nothing to intervene while witnessing George being murdered. They were charged with aiding and abetting. Their trial was pushed back to March 2022, in part to allow the publicity over Derek Chauvin’s conviction to cool off, a judge ruled back in May.
