Cardi B abruptly pulls out of a lead role in the Assisted Living comedy just a week before production was set to start. Deets inside…
Cardi B just pulled a fast one in Hollywood.
The "UP" raptress reportedly backed away from a starring role in Paramount Player’s new comedy Assisted Living, causing the studio to halt production until further notice. It’s the Grammy Award winning rapper’s first leading role in a film, following her film debut in HUSTLERS in 2019.
And get this, she pulled out of the $30 million film just a week away from starting production, according to Deadline. Other cast and crew were just told the film is - at least right now - temporarily shelved.
The reason? Deadline reports its because “she is overextended.”
The comedy is produced by Temple Hill Productions and it was to be directed by Thembi Banks. It’s interesting because Thembi is (or was) besties with rap star Nicki Minaj, who is Cardi’s rap nemesis. When it was announced Thembi would be directing last year, another one of Nicki’s friends blasted her on Instagram, dubbing her an “opp” for working with Cardi.

As for the film, it is described as a “raucous comedy” that will follow the blueprint of funny classics that came before it like Sister Act, Mrs. Doubtfire and Tootsie.
In Assisted Living (not to be confused with Tyler Perry’s “Assisted Living” television series), Cardi was set to play a low-level criminal on the run when she’s wrongly accused of a crime. She has to stay free long enough to prove her innocence and holes up at her grandmother’s retirement home. She fits in with the help of some old-lady prosthetics.
With a $30 million budget, usually when a star pulls out abruptly like this its followed by legal action. That may not be an issue for Cardi because sources revealed that they hope to “put the pieces back together later this year.” Must be nice.
We hope everything is good with Cardi. The Bronx babe and her husband Offset welcomed their second child together, a son six months ago. The couple still hasn’t shown the baby’s face as fans constantly beg for a glimpse.
Recently, Cardi shared a picture of her son’s eyeball and that sent Twitter into a frenzy. She started popping off about how people are always criticizing her over anything she does. Check it:
Sheesh.
