Serena Williams is fired up! She defeated her longtime rival Maria Sharapova within 1-hour for the first day of the US Open. And she did it in front of a star-studded audience. More inside...
What rivalry?
Serena Williams was all about changing the narrative when it comes to talk about her rivalry with Russian tennis player Maria Sharpova. Yep, the queen is back and with a vengeance.
Last year, there was controversy at the U.S. Open after Rena fiercely checked chair umpire Carlos Ramos during her match against Naomi Osaka. She was accused of using coaching during her final set against Naomi, who ultimately defeated her and won her first Grand Slam title. This year, there was none of that.
Not only did she annihilate Sharapova, she did it in 59 minutes to be exact. She took down the Russian tennis player in a 6-1, 6-1 to win her first-round match at Flushing Meadows, where has won six titles. Now, Rena holds a 20-2 record against Sharapova. Take that, take that.
Peep her post-game interview where she breaks down how she took down Sharapova and see how she pulled a Mariah Carey "I do not know him" when umpire Carlos Ramos' name was brought up below:
What a queen!
In the stands...
Boxing champ Mike Tyson was spotted in the stands with his wife Lakiha Spicer Wiki sitting behind "Shark Tank" star Daymond John.
He brought his daughter Milan along as well.
Sports fan/famed director Spike Lee was spotted rallying for Rena to take home the victory.
Oh baby! "Orange Is The New Black" star Danielle Brooks bumped along for the tennis action. Cute.
Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning actress Regina King - who honored over the weekend at Black Girls Rock, stepped out to peep Rena on her A-game. Love the 'fit.
"Growing Up Hip Hop" star Angela Simmons was in the mix, posing it up in her Adidas outfit and sneakers.
Others in attendance included singer Maxwell, "GMA" co-anchor Robin Roberts and her wife Amber Laign:
